Rip-off Britain?

According to the Sunday Times today a new Corvette ( which Clarkson says is awesome) is £34,000 in the USA and £64,000 in the UK. What is all that about? When I thought about doing the same with a Chrysler Hemi a few years ago, the dealerships said that if they sold a car for export to the UK they would lose their franchise. So to the lawyers out there - can this be legal in international law?
