Caterham chassis number type

Hi - I have a 1998 car with a 1.6 K series engine. Chassis number starts SDKRDS but the 7th character is an "A" for alternative, any ideas what this means?

Thanks. I found the FAQ stuff and used that to find that an "A" meant Alternative. Just wondering what "Alternative" meant

I'll ask on the 7 club website, I'm just not a member yet so was hoping for some help through here.
