I'm getting to the end of the build of my R400.

I have a set of carpets but am wondering whether to fit them. What's the general opinion? They obviously add a little weight, do they do anything for noise? I guess very little.

Thanks guys. I hadn't thought about the heat issue but that makes sense. I think I'll fit the tunnel and seat back.

I fitting carpets to mine and all the noise totally disappeared. Was like travelling in a Maybach. Then I woke up.

Don't bother with 'em mate. In the boot maybe as it might stop some things getting damaged/dirty and protect the ali floor.

I'll think about it. Might just do the tunnel sides.

If I do, anyone got any suggestions about adhesive? Does it have to be put on both surfaces, does it have to be sprayed? I can't find any brush on stuff, which might be cleaner on the car surfaces.

And are they easier to fit in boot if you remove the floor first?

Maybe carpet the tunnel for heat protection but nothing else as if it gets wet its hard to dry and it's something else to clean. If it was me I would forget about carpet and get some heat reflective mat to put it on the inside of the tunnel and a section on the engine bay behind the exhaust manifold. I got some from JJC rally and stopped my clutch foot getting burnt on a hot day. Some serious heat from a Duratec!
It already has significant heat shield stuff around the footwell area under the hood. It came like that from the factory.

Anyway, lots of stuff to consider, cheers all.

No - don't do it ! My old Seven had full carpets which is why my R400 has none . Problems? They get wet and stay wet for weeks ; they smell like past their sell by date mushrooms at the back of the fridge; the glue comes undone(especially where it gets hot )and the carpet flops over your feet or legs, usually whilst you are acting out your Hamilton in Q3 fantasy . Rubber mats and a bit of carpet in the boot if you must. Don't wear shorts and your legs won't get burned.
+1

and regards the heat why not get the primaries ceramic coated
Not too concerned about the heat, I checked this morning and there is quite thick reflective heat insulation all over the bulkhead and the tunnel next to the gearbox.

I'm leaning towards leaving them out at least for now.

Ceramic is a thought for the future, does it make much difference?
