Drilled floor question

A few months ago I had Caterham change the passenger bucket seat from being fixed to being put on seat runners mostly to allow a little more shoulder room. I spotted this weekend that they didn't block the previously used holes with anything at the time.

I called the workshop today and some rubber plugs are on their way to me however it occurs to me that there has been bare metal exposed for a few months. Should I treat it with anything before inserting the bung i.e. sand it & apply something like hammerite?
