Thought this may be of interest to some.

GPS reset at Le Mans

1393 kms = 865'

Av cons 27.4mpg. (22.8 US mpg = 27.38 UK mpg).

  • Disclaimer - the top speed was of course on a private closed road....

a few pics

Le Mans

The airtrack camp site was at Chateau Durand - This exceptional race was first run in 1923, created by Georges Durand, a native son of Le Mans mad about cars - sadly the chateau is in disrepair.

Mulsanne straight was open when we left on Monday - brilliant...

Nice overnight stop in Biarritz

Used a new route through Spain via Teruel - great road and toll free. Unfortunately hit a Thunderstorm/cloudburst in \Sagunto - while it cleaned the car it slowed us to 40mph for 50 mins.

Fantastic run down but nice to arrive at the villa though!

on the way back I closely monitored the fuel consumption and did the full tank to full tank calculation.

So Javea to Norwich over two days - total distance 1302'. Varied driving - mostly motorway and toll roads but a fair amount of 'B' type French roads on the way to Mont De Marsan (a place I will never return to voluntarily) after the Pyrenees. The route was Javea - Teruel- Zaragoza - Huesca - Jaca - Somport - Marsan then usual toll roads Bordeaux - Le Mans - Rouen - Calais. I had intended to use the Somport tunnel but it was closed when I arrived however this made me go over the mountain which gave some great photo opportunities.

Total distance 1302'
Total fuel full tank to full tank 227.8 ltrs or 50.1 gallons

Average tank to tank consumption 25.98 mpg UK

Fuel consumption on car computer (reset in Javea for average mpg) 21.1 US mpg = 25.46 UK mpg - so almost spot on.

This is probably the last time I do the trip though as before with cheaper fuel on the continent and reasonable tolls it was not economic but OK. Now French fuel is 1.72 E on the motorways and the tolls are very high - I paid over 100E in France, making the total for the trip about £450. Its cheaper to fly and hire something decent over there now, or possibly have the car transported down.
