I used to enjoy playing Tiger Woods Golf on a mates PS3 but now have only a PC and went to look for the Tiger Woods game to buy. It turns out that EA have dropped the Tiger Woods name (It's now back to being PGA Tour Golf) and nevertheless, the game has not been available on PC since the 2012 version.

Then I found out that a new game has just been release called The Golf Club

http://store.steampowered.com/app/269730/

It looks pretty good at first glance but it's a completely new game and so could be rubbish. Has anyone played it? It's available via Steam for PC and I think next year some time for consoles.

Quick update. Bought the game (£26), downloaded it...wouldn't run. Turns out having Direct X 11 is not enough, the graphics card needs to support DX11 as well.

I've since ordered a replacement card which should arrive on Monday so I'll update this once I've got everything working.

Well new card arrived (second hand GTX480). Turns out now that my PSU doesn't have the correct cables to run it (only has a single 6 pin plug whereas the GTX480 requires a 6pin + 8pin). I'm giving it one last chance by buying an adapter from 2x Molex to 8pin. If this fails then I'm getting rid of the whole lot and going back to not playing computer games any more....

Buy a ps4 and bin all the hassle, Download play done = more fun
And then log in to my work VPN, rattle off a couple of spreadsheets, fire up Lightroom to do some editing...oh wait.

I take your point but I play an odd game very occasionally. What I did essentially, was to buy a PS4 game for a PS3 (due to my own ignorance). The advantage I have over a console is that I can choose to upgrade my PS3 to a PS4 for minimal cash (but a bit more hassle).

So I did get the game to run once I'd got the graphics card working so I'll chip in (wahey) with my first impressions of the PC version.

Pros:

- Graphics are very nice
- Load times between holes are virtually non-existent, you can play a full 18 in 20 minutes.
- All the shot types are there
- The game is difficult, like golf. It is very easy to miss-hit shots and get a big score. Hopefully, like golf, I will get better with practice.
- I like the opportunity to play against ghosts, especially older rounds you have had yourself
- The course designer is pretty cool and ensures you don't get bored of the same old courses

Cons:

- Putting is very frustrating at first as there is no power meter. This will become less of an issue as you get better.
- It could just be me but chipping is impossible. It almost always goes almost nowhere. I have taken to playing flops when within 30 yards as chipping does doesn't seem to work properly. I will persevere with this.
- It is not very accessible to new players, no tutorial, tricky putting and even driving. I find sometimes the computer selected shot is far from ideal.
- Shots from the rough seem to be overly penalised. You have an 85% lie in the rough and hit a full-bore 5-iron and it may only go 100 yards. This could have been me as I have only played a handful of rounds.
- The biggest thing for me is that there is a total lack of any career progression. There is no opportunity to build your stats through practice, win prize-money and upgrade your clubs or any of the other things that would keep me playing the game.
- A driving range and practice green option would be very useful to try out and perfect all the different shots

As I said these are first impressions. I do hope that the developers intend to keep developing the game and adding to it. It does feel a bit demo like at the moment. Stuff like sutomising your golfer doesn't appeal to me at all. Who cares what colour the hat is etc.

Does anyone know if there is a feature road-map available anywhere?

I've just found a page of tutorial videos on the developers website. It looks very useful.

Is it not still technically an early access game? (Not at a PC to get to Steam ATM) So it should (HA!) get better.
I will look for it in a Steam sale.
I believe it has now been fully released but a lot of the material on the website in FAQs etc. does say things like "X is not currently supported" implying that it might be in the future.

It's worth persevering with but I'm not sure if it's worth the full £30 just yet.
