So who is going to be getting this next week?

Looks amazing, very different idea to the usual FPS, you basically don't get any guns and run away...LOTS!

My only worry is how tiresome that will get very quickly, but it looks a refreshing change.

Its also a Single Player experience, so can immerse myself in a story.

Other option is LOTR: Shadow of Mordor as aits a single player with MP bits, as in you can help out others ..sort of...

Need to decide which I am getting this month, poo pants scary, or fantasy RPG....hmmm

I never played any of the AC games oddly, just never got round to it so never jumped on board.

I am probably going for alien over LOTR this month.

Apparently in the edition from game for a few quid more it has the extra missions with the team from the Nostromo with all of them doing the voices bar Ian Holm and Jones the cat (as he be dead frown).

These missions include the last bit of Alien where you have to self destruct the Nostromo while the Alien stalks you!

"You now have 10 minutes to reach minimum safe distance....."

Yep, the Beats mahoosive cans I stupidly bought 6 years ago at some £300 will now get a use!...... GF wasn't impressed when I explained the specs.

Ordered the Ripley edition from Game now, that's the one that has the self destruct mission, NOT the other edition or the normal game. Just to be clear.

Also got our tickets for Alien double bill come Halloween, good times.

Does look great.

My main concern is that it'll have no real replayability. Looks like it relies upon a lot of set piece scares - i.e. encounters occur at preordained times. I'd like to think they've thought of this though, but I'm eternally pessimistic.
I think there will be an element of that, its the nature of the species. However they have said save points are dotted about but they are noisy and can attract the alien, so you can avoid them but you end up going farther back. An example they gave was it may be better to save and die as when you start at that save the alien wont just be waiting there again.

So there is a fair amount of randomisation in how the alien works, or so I have been led to believe.

That sounds rather clever actually. smile

Wish I knew which version I'm supposed to buy.. hate these "exclusive at retailer X" pre-order bonuses, as it "forces" you to buy into it before you've seen any reviews, and you usually miss out on something if you choose one retailer over another. I mean I'm a pretty big Alien fan (watched the original last night oddly enough), but have been burned on preorders on games that turned out to be crap before.

Which is the "best" version to buy, and from where?

I went for the 'Ripley' edition, it has the 2 extra mission\games where you play as part of the original team (voiced by the original cast!) and there is the one you play as Ellen Ripley in the last 30 minutes of Alien.

The 'crew expendable edition only has the mission where you play with the original crew, NOT the Alien ending\self destruct mission. The crew expendable mission is included in the 'Ripley' Edition.

Standard game doesn't have the extra missions but I assume you can DLC them.

Ripley edition was £53 at GAME and is exclusive to them.

Apparently it's a long campaign and the best bits are near the beginning. Well I am 3-4 hours in and I have to say nothing has given me the proper st the bed frights of Doom 3 so far.
Picking up a headset adaptor to use my beats headphones on the way home, hopefully game has appeared.

Apparently the biggest issue with the game is that its quite long and you spend most of that time, dying and redoing bits...as you die lots.....and lots.....and lots ...and....ahem.

But yeah, the Alien is seen as a bit of a bd, killing you as you open doors, do mini games, that means progress is stymied.

Still not gonna play it when on my own in the house....might grab one of the guinea pigs to sit with me.

Been ages since I played doom 3, was a good game and one of the few I actually played without cheats just to get to the end after a while.

Dead Space I got for free when EA do a sale type thing on Origin, however I found the cumbersome movement annoying when counterpointed by the monsters being really quick. I really should give it another go though.

Only played a little bit as was getting ready for competition in Brum, but I am at the bit where you see your ship outside the window then the shutters come down. Its properly spooky, and the squeaky shoes are a genuine masterstroke in a game where you need to be quiet.

I am playing on easy (as I don't have a masochistic streak) and I turned off the Kinect noise sensor, so if there is a noise in the room the alien can hear YOU! as I don't want to die by farting too loud.

I do like how you can peek round corners by tilting your head though, useless, but fun.

Forza Horizon is more fun though.

Gave the game a good play session at the weekend, Got from the point where the first cutscene with Alex 'gets a fright' to where you transport to the med\sci tower.

Great tension but am a little frustrated with the save system and how patrolling works. I was making my way back from the lockdown disable and had to go through the comms area, there were 3 joe's on patrol and the way it is designed there is a floodlight facing you as you get to a corner and there is a joe standing right by it, so you stop as it a surprise, then you hear the noise that the joe I had previously snuck by could now see me, so I got accosted by 3 joe's, I fought them off and legged it to the elevator door that was near by.

I liked the tension but I didn't like how it was almost impossible to sneak by and if you died its a 15 minute redo of what you just did.

However the randomness can be fun, during the transit between towers you stop off at a transit area, and you just have to call the next shuttle (which is the slowest and loudest activity in the game!!!!) however as there was a save terminal there I decided to explore a bit, found a marshals station, went in and got warned to back off by men with guns, as I did this I heard a thump, a hiss, Violins notes and a thump as I was impaled. I didn't think the alien would have travelled from one tower to the next instantly, a bit cheap, but I get the 'hurry up' mechanic now.

I may still end up throwing my controller through a window in frustration once the game\hunt begins proper.

I am just at the start of the medlab mission that is apparently a mahoosive ballache as its just you and the alien and most folk die...LOTS!

I have seen a YT vid where the guy was a bit hopeless but didn't die once, I don't mind sneaking about but if I have to go through the sequence again and again as the save point isn't THAT close to the trigger scene.

May have to rage quit after an hour.

Yeah they are broken down into missions but its not made clear.

I am just about to start the mission after the med bay and watching a few real time playthrough videoas I have an idea what I am doing.

I don't want to spoil it but the constant back and forth-ing I would rather just have to worry about avoiding the thing than thinking where I am going. I get the tension but hiding in a locker with the off chance it might just appear as I step out and I die is getting old.

I want to finish the story but a level that should take 15 minutes taking over an hour through deaths would get stale.

Im in 2 minds if I finish it or trade it in against hale master chief collection, the game is so beautiful and atmospheric and I don't want to wuss out, but I don't have that much spare time just now so I feel its a bit wasted.
