PC Game Ideas

Hi folks, need a few suggestions if possible.

I've recently built a new gaming rig () and I would like to get some games that will tax my GPU; I'm quite open to most game types.

I was big into PC gaming a few years back, but I've been out of the loop for around 2-3 years. I've played most of the 'classics' (Half Life 2, Crysis, Total War, C&C), so I'm looking for something out in the last few years that may have dropped under my radar.

Any suggestions?

I've already got Aliens Isolation, Borderlands Prequel and Sniper Elite V3.

I've seen Civ Beyond Earth advertised and Shadow of Mordor, but haven't got those yet.

Thanks Colintate, will take a look at that. Annoyingly I think it was one of the choices for my free games with the GPU, but I didn't pick it.

Is it a MMO type thing? I don't tend to be able to stick them out.

Running Shadow of Mordor on Ultra will do the trick. Witcher 3 and Far Cry 4 soon too.

Skyrim can still be extremely demanding when you pile on the mods

Running a Radeon R9 290X DD Edition, so reasonably beefy with the option for a cheapish crossfire in 12 months.

Far Cry 4 is at the top of my list, loved the third one.

I've played Skyrim previously, but never went down the mod route. I've heard amazing things though, so I'll check that out.

Hrmm. That's a good question. At best description - its a mix of games. The single player Squadron 42 component is space sim and shooter - which lets friends play as your wingmen (but no direct interaction - so very single player). The Persistent Universe is an MMO - but not a standard MMO. There is no character levelling - skill is totally in your hands - and as a result feels to me like it is going to be the 'anti-MMO MMO', where immersion and fidelity win out.

Bear in mind though - this is down the road, and we won't be seeing more of that side of thing for another year. Right now we have dogfighting (and racing) and the soon to come FPS. Not sure what kind of things you like to play - but if any of that whets your whistle, I'd say give it a go. It is still early days yet for it - and despite its flaws, it is the most fun I've had in gaming for a while.

So very interesting.

It almost sounds a bit like a first person version of EVE and Dust 514. I'm at work at the moment, but I'll watch those videos when I get back home

I found just doing it through the Steam workshop was the easiest way rather than using the 'nexus' tool.

Oh, get yourself Assetto Corsa too!

Sounds good; I'm keen to try out some of the Skyrim mods.

Elite Dangerous sounds like my kind of thing, I'll add that to the list.

Arma 3, I'm guessing that is similar to Operation Flashpoint?

Shadow of Mordor is really good, enjoying that a lot and looks pretty on ultra settings.

Also if you like flight sims then IL2 Battle for Stalingrad has just been released and is fantastic.

Well I'm playing Total War: Rome 2 at the moment; although I'm not enjoying it as much as the first one.

Shadow of Mordor is on the list.

IL2 is a old favourite of mine, many late night LAN parties with the boys mixed in with UT2004. I hadn't realised they had released a new one; will defo check that out.

Played all of those except Wolfenstein and Bioshock 2. I actaully bought the Bioshock pack on Steam last night

I've just finished playing Ryse: Son of Rome on the PC. I too also have a 290X and the game plays with everything set to high.
It's not a great game, but visually it's beautiful, very gory too.
Think of it as a hack and slash, maybe a game version of the film 300.

Oh and edited to add, take a look at Assassins Creed - Black Flag. Another wonderful looking game on the PC with everything turned on. This is also a very playable game too.

Ryse has popped up on my radar and sometimes you just want to switch your brain off and chop st up, so I'll give that a look

I played Black Flag on the Xbox, although I never completed it. Might give it another whirl, especially as the new ones are out soon.
