Been playing AC Unity lately and it has got me thinking about what a good movie this series of games would make. Others that immediately spring to mind are Mass Effect and, of course, The Last of Us.

Apart from the Resident Evil movies (plus Silent Hill and a handful of others that I can't recall) why are not more games turned into a movie? Would they be deemed too niche or geeky?

Incidentally, what games would you like to see turned into a movie?

Do you need more reasons?
Ha! Ok, why aren't more games made into good movies?!

I'm sure that if a game with a deep story was used as opposed to it just being about action it could work well. Like the games I've mentioned, for example.

Didn't Doom have a first-person element?!

Probably because most films that are based on games stink ?

What game actually has a good plot that you can create a film from? I haven't played any.
I've played a few that I've thought would make a great film but yeah the ones that have have been a bit rubbish (few exceptions aside).

The one I keep coming back to is Last of Us.

I want a Halo film made, the short clips that have been made prove that it's possible, so they just need to extend it. It has such potential not to be st but I guess it would depend on who directed it.
Not played many Halo games but, must admit, when I saw the advert for the latest game you can see the potential.

Alan Wake could work well perhaps? Story-focused game but pretty linear...

As others have said, Mass Effect would be awesome but it would be very difficult to pull off. It's one of those games that is really made by the users actions.

I'd like a Bioshock film, based on Rapture. Also a Mechwarrior film, just to satisfy my lust for giant fighting robots!
Bioshock is a great shout! Awesome games. Preferred the first two over Infinite.

Here is a list of all video games that have been made into movies (almost 30 in total - with a few coming up in the next year or so).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_based_...

The highest rotten tomato rating any of them got was 44% (Final Fantasy) - and almost 2/3rds of them scored less than 20%.
Resident Evil movies weren't too bad imo. Especially if you are a fan of the games.

Based on that link the Alone in the Dark movie has got to be worth a watch just to see how bad it is!! Might see if it is on Netflix!

I've recently downloaded that from the PS store for a bit of gaming nostalgia!

Who would you cast as Manny?!

Gears of War good shout! That would make an awesome, brainless film I'm sure!

But as said above I suppose the answer is what I first thought - games are too niche and simply wouldn't make enough money.

Surely there would/could be some exceptions?!

All these movies made from the Lego games are pretty good, Star Wars, Pirates, Marvel, Indiana Jones hehe

On a serious note I reckon a couple of the GTA games would be good, though may end up a bit like a Fast and Furious film.

Dead Space has potential.

Could go uber geeky and do a Gran Turismo/ Forza film where the guy starts off as an avid track day guy with a civic and through some epic car porn ends up racing protoypes at LeMans
Dead Space would be amazing! I'm imagining some sort of cross between Resident Evil and Event Horizon!

No Sam Neill though wink
