American Truck Simulator
Discussion
Only a few days left until release.
Disappointing that there's only two official trucks on release, with the rest waiting on licensing approval but mod authors are sure to pick up the slack.

Nothing confirmed from SCS about compatibility as far as I know, but it is essentially an expandalone to ETS2, so I expect the American truck mods will probably come over quite quickly. I think some more licenced trucks are coming soon, once they add Arizona the content is pretty reasonable to me for £15.
It looks like this is on the money about how it isn't appreciably different from ETS, but it should be good. Things like the weighbridge and parking difficulty stuff are nice touches. It's the same higher fidelity better optimised ETS2 of the Scaninavia DLC and has some nice details, so it does look alright. I assume it's still using MLAA so not brilliant, Scandinavia looks fantastic with SSGSSA injected and runs better than the original parts of the map, this should benefit from that.
I don't think I'll be touching this for a while, I'm still very gradually trying to near as 100% both map DLCs, and Promods which keeps getting bigger
Squirrel is streaming it on Twitch all weekend if you fancy an early look.

I'm hoping some mod author will release the Happy Toyz truck.
I've been watching Squirrel through the day and I forgot how frustrating starting off and levelling up a new profile is.
My ETS2 profile is level 40 and 10.0 XP, so I've unlocked everything and a new profile only unlocks certain upgrades when you level up.

Tommo, I've only done one job as I'm waiting for the weekend when I'll have more time to play and more time to explore the mods available but it's essentially a reskin of ETS2 but I don't mind that. It does look good though and I hope that SCS will make the jump to DX11 in the future for a better looking game.

I see that ATS is now supported by Nvidia Geforce Experience, so optimising is just a simple one-click affair.

So I've been playing ATS/ETS with my Oculus Rift for the last few days and the immersion level is astounding. I'm actually sitting in the truck and completely in the ATS world as I drive around and I feel completely engrossed in this world.
However, there is SDE which is hard to ignore and I have felt queasy when driving into certain bends at speed but have learnt to focus on the mirrors for a few seconds, instead of the view forwards when taking bends. Although VR support is still in beta hopefully SCS can improve it in the future.

The steering wheel update is pretty much a non-event tbh. Wish they'd give us some decent tweaks and updates, which would have an effect on gameplay. I'd love to see a real hardcore mode, where there's no in-game help. So no white boxes for reversing etc, all trailers should have trailer numbers. So you arrive at the gate, the security guard tells you that your trailer number is TL475 and is on bay 3 but it's still being loaded, which will put your delivery time under pressure, instead of every trailer being ready to roll every single time. In real life....they're not!

Watched Squirrel last night playing the 1.5 beta Rescale and it looks really good. Trips really do take quite some time to complete and gives the feeling of Stateside driving with long roads that go on forever. A couple of negatives from my POV, it has reset the map to 0% driven and this 1.5 beta doesn't work with my Occulus.

! mp3manager, have you got your rift to work with 1.5 yet?
No not yet. Usually after a release comes out of beta, about a week or so later Oculus support is added. If anybody's wondering how to enable Oculus support, choose it from the dropdown menu in the Beta tab, click General tab then Set Launch Options, type in -oculus and while you're there -nointro to skip the intro loading screens for quicker loading

Just got my Oculus Touch controllers this morning and they're fantastic.
I'd love to see Touch support in ATS/ETS, seeing 'your hands' in game and being able to manipulate controls and switches would be really cool, just like OMSI and TrainSim allows the player to flip switches and press buttons.
