Searched but couldn't find a topic.

Anybody else enjoying early access to the open beta!? This game is tremendous biggrin

For those in the dark, it is an arena FPS (or MOBA... I think). Games are either PvE or PvP and feature objectives akin to capture the flag and the like. There are 21 heroes to choose from falling within classes of DPS, support, tank and snipers/specialists. Nothing out of the ordinary there although the heroes are fairly unique.

BUT. This game oozes character and is also quite funny. Looks a bit like Team Fortress but I never actually played that so can't comment further. Also, the maps are quite intricate- the arenas aren't like Falcon Lost hehe. The gunplay is very satisfying. Some guns don't have the "heft" of Destiny or even BF but it is overall very good. Finally, and bearing in mind this is after an evenings play only, the teamwork required makes for some interesting mechanics, especially in PvP. Playing as support is actually a lot of fun and also pretty essential.

Some gameplay footage although I should caveat this by saying this was PvE with the AI set to a medium setting so they grouped together AND we managed to spawn trap them. PvP is very different thus far and I suspect PvE on a higher setting will result in them emerging from the other exits etc:-

A feature that I really like is a "play of the game" at the end of a match. Instead of a kill cam for the last kill, the game picks out a particular piece of play instead. I managed to bag this in my first match biggrin... Although there will have been some beginner's luck and this was also against the AI:-

It isn't going to be for everybody- the cartoony graphics will put some off, but it is worth checking out. It is very easy to pick up and play and doesn't take itself too seriously. After weeks of The Division, this is just what I need. shoot

Open Beta opens for all tomorrow I think. smile

I don't think you can get TF 2 on the PS4 which is a shame frown. I know it is well regarded and I assume it is well balanced after years of tweaking.

Still, this seems to be getting decent reviews from those (on Reddit) that usually play TF 2. Good enough for me. smile

half consider trying Battleborn instead, though I'm not sure about its art style.
Some very interesting points (scratchchin) but ^ is what has turned me off Battleborn. Looks very interesting though and some streamers have said it has more depth.

For those playing this, I implore you to look at the "skins" (quite literally hehe) under each hero from the heroes screen. The exotic skins are particularly impressive, especially Winston. hehe

I've just been playing and enjoyed it. Not sure if I'd buy it though.
...and this is where I am at. smile

Really enjoyed the beta and will play some more tonight (as it has been extended). But, having clocked in 10 hours since last Tuesday and now that the shiny newness has worn off, I don't think it will hold my attention enough to justify a purchase.

I think part of the problem is imbalance- Torbjorn's turrets and Bastion are a PITA. Junkrat's super has a ridiculous blast radius. Things like this can make games feel like a chore.

A great game though. Just not for me. smile

You are both right. I actually found it best to counter the turret brothers by using the snipers. BUT, the "aim-bot" nature of Torbjorn's turret is a bit cheap which detracts from the fun a little.

If there was nothing on the horizon then I'd be all over this. But with Uncharted 4, hopefully The Division being fixed for this month's incursion (laugh), Hoops for Rocket League and No Man's Sky, I do have enough to play until the blockbusters land this Autumn.

Will keep an eye on this thread though and may jump in a little later down the line. thumbup

With others almost exclusively- "squads" of 3/4 at least. It is undoubtedly better in a group on comms. smile

Perhaps I prefer the more traditional shooters. shoot

Did a complete U-turn. hehe

I realised how much I enjoyed playing this when the beta was no longer available and I'm pleased to say that this arrived yesterday:-

Now To see if the servers are up and running. biggrin

Yep- at least 4 of us. Some others were undecided still but they'll end up buying it when they realise The Division is still broken/isn't going to be fixed anytime soon.

Check out a few videos. You may not like the art style or game modes. It is a lot of fun though. smile

Welcome to my world, dude. Semi-rural so the best I can get is 2mb down and 0.5mb up. Fibre broadband is scheduled at my postcode in Q4, 2017. frown

The kicker?! Superfast broadband is available in the nearby village, 1/4 mile away. rage

Yep. Started as soon as I put the disc in. I assume if you're on a digital download, you'll be downloading the already patched version. Otherwise, whack it in and get started!

Took me 6 hours yesterday. Weirdly, mid-way through, the download amount dropped from 3.3GB to 2.9GB so that'll save a little time.

Excellent work, Gazza. Excellent. smile

A *slight* disappointment though- the aim-bot nature of TorBjorn (henceforth known as Toblerone hehe) is something that I thought was to be tweaked. I *thought* I read something about the movement arc being slowed to give you a chance. Appreciate these can be countered but still...

Epic 4/5 man squads yesterday. One thing that we struggled with and seemingly ALWAYS struggle with, is getting out of the spawn room on Route 66. It always seems like the opposing team have a Symmetra put her slowly turrets just by the payload, a couple of snipers far back and a couple of turrets near the sides.

Any tips?!

redface

Found Winston to be a very good counter for the pain in the 'arris that is (a good) Pharah. His jump can reach as high, it recharges quicker than her jet pack and he is tank-y enough to withstand a few rockets to the face when getting close. Combined with a gun that will damage if in range (wherever she is), and her low-ish health, we found that people had to switch character pretty sharp-ish. biggrin

Winston FTW. thumbupshoot

After weeks of getting ever so close (299x) to diamond before the team got match-made with utter eejits, I finally hit diamond ranking yesterday party

I got to the dizzy heights of 3027 (hehe) before said eejits made a return so now back down to 3000. I don't think I'll get to grandmaster level (3500?!) but then that is a jump from top 7% to top 2%. I'm nowhere near that level. eek

Have to say, and I imagine some of you guys are way beyond my skill level and so will be used to this, that the plays of people at 3000+ is immense. I'm talking of the ingenious placements of Mei's wall to get access to places, Genjis that. just. refuse. to. die and excellent combos of Ults.

Battlefield is out soon but I'll probably still play this a lot with mates. smile

I still haven't touched competitive to be honest, now at level 52. How long do the rounds actually take?

DUDE. In my opinion, you're missing out on 70% of the game by sticking to quick play/brawls. Okay, perhaps that is a little harsh but you've hit the nail on the head regarding communication. I'm blessed in that I have 5 or so buddies to team up with. Having said that, if they're not about, I will play quick play as I don't trust the randoms. Each time, I'm astounded by how bad some players pick. Yesterday, I jumped in as D.VA and had 2 Hanzos and 2 Anas as teammates. Of course we got stomped. Competitive allows only 1 character to be selected so typically there is 2 DPS, 2 tanks, 1 Healer and... MEI/JR hehe In all seriousness, the games are close, intense and tactical. It feels like a different game compared to the other modes.

To answer your question, the rounds typically take about 15mins or so. The King of Hill modes have an extra round, so first to 3 rather than 2, otherwise the rounds don't feel overly long.

I wholeheartedly recommend trying competitive play. Just a word of warning, the placement matches (10 initial games to determine your initial rank from bronze>silver>gold>platinum>diamond>grandmaster) are NOT fun. You're thrown in with various people of different abilities and it is a touch soul-destroying- I lost 6 out of 10. After that, you're good. smile

Got a lot better at D.Va too. It seems harder to get Ult kills now as people avoid better than ever, so I need to improve that, but I seem to have a nack where to move and not getting killed when out the mech. Only hero I ever get 0 death rounds in biggrin
thumbup I main Pharah and D.VA smile

I find the trick with D.VA's Ult is to either use complete surprise, or to fire the mech from a place far enough away that by the time it lands and they see it, they can't get away. Here's a multi kill I bagged from a few weeks ago:-

Otherwise, I'm usually trolling with Pharah hehe :-

Are those Youtube vids done through the PS4? I've worked out what I'm doing with Shadowplay on PC, and now have save last x mins on hotkey, I'll see if I can get some together to upload. I assume it will come out reasonably well if I keep the bitrate high as possible, getting a minor FPS impact on 1920x1200 60fps at 50mbits.
Yep! Just a couple of presses to be uploaded- I'm too simple for anything else... smile

Do it. I'm always fascinated to see new plays- loved that Zarya video from last week or so, on Reddit, of her shooting the ground with her launcher to gain height onto another floor. eeksmile
