Assetto Corsa from Project Cars - Why am I now slow?!

I've been playing Project Cars for a year or so on PS4 with a G29 wheel, with generally satisfactory albeit not alien lap times. I'd say with a little effort I can normally get within a few of seconds of the record times and can be competitive online, which is good enough for me...
The other day, I bought Assetto Corsa as it appears to be fairly highly regarded and was on offer on PSN for twenty quid. First impressions, it's very good! The physics seem more natural, the force feedback is much better and it just feels right. Herein begins my struggle - it may feel right but I have found in most cars on default setups I am understeering all over the place at the speeds I'd normally take corners in Pcars. I was online on Spa last night in GT class and was in a good rhythm as had slowed down corner entry speed to negate the issue and was putting in consistent laptimes. As a result of slowing down corner speed, however, I was over 4 seconds off of the pace. Mainly just curious as to how other people are taking corners much faster, as any increase on my part resulted in needing to lift due to losing front end grip.
For anybody with both, are the default setups in Assetto inclined to understeer? Is Project Cars more forgiving? Do I need to adjust my technique? Am I a t

Less understeer in this car BUT I checked my tyre temps and the fronts were almost molten! Is audible scrub a sign that I am carrying too much speed? I think my time with Project Cars has given me bad habits!
