I might be missing something here but it seems excessively dumbed down, not that the previous was a such an expert app. I was using iPhoto to organise and linked to PS Elements to edit. Now I cannot seem to do that latter, anyone else playing with this?

I am not a hard core photo editor BTW. The previous suited my needs.

Also seeing that it imports from the old iPhoto library and seems to create a new library but one help document on apple suggested they are links rather than copies? Odd then that files size is the same.

Thinking I export the lot and find something new or just stick with PSE 11 organiser and editor. What else can I try in the world of amateur for the fun of it?

I did export the lot as originals before updating to 10.10.3. I was sort of happy with before, but I cannot seem to select an external editor as a preference. Seems aimed at the iPhone happy snappy generation and selfies. That and iCloud as part of the system. Not paying extra for cloud backup if I already have it.

Maybe (as seems to be the current Apple way) they'll improve it over time to give back the functionality that was lost.
Doubt it. They have stuck with certain things like the system font despite my users complaining. Getting a bit "do as I say" with some stuff. Not looked at lightroom for a while, might go see what that does now.

Well, not able to set an external editor for certain it seems. RAW adjustments useless, if they are there. Time to move, this is pants. But lightroom seems to be on some sort of subscription? I have not been paying attention.

Oh well.

Have you tried Command-Option-S (from the above review)?
Missing what that does? Thanks for the link but not seeing it. It does confirm there is no seamless external editing.

Re Picassa, I have this thing about google products so firing up my PSE 11, the organiser is OK and fits seamlessly with the editor. Problem is I have to export all images then set it up. That means if Apple decide to put it back, too much hassle.

Adobe, what happened there? As I am not a serious user, I did not see that happening and I am not paying those prices. I see PSE 13 for sale still as a boxed version but the differences between that and 11 do not look worth the money.

Edit. And my processor seems to be getting a kicking running this as well.

You can still buy Lughtroom as a standalone, perpetual license product. The license will be for two computers, and will cost around £100 or thereabouts.

LIghtroom 6 is due to be released soon and will have some additional features such as HDR and panoramic stitching (according to rumor anyway!).

Alternatively there is Capture One Pro 8 available as a perpetual license too, although it is a lot more expensive than LR.

Personally I didn't want to pay a subscription so bought the perpetual license e for LR 5. Hope you get sorted.
Ah, missed that. Capture One looks interesting but pricy for me. LR5/6 it might well be then. I like PSE 11 but never really pushed the limits. Came across DxO for $129, though that was the essentials. $199 for the pro, organiser and editor in one. Been messing with that as well but not got the hang of it yet. Looks interesting.

Having had a better read of that article and looking around the web, this is a bit marmite. Some seem to hope that easy external editor use is on the next upgrade. Not sure I can wait that long. Spent last night re exporting from iPhoto and it takes time. don't want to be doing this again, sort of points to jump ship anyway.

Found out from this thread that I can get Lightroom standalone anyway, that is good.

PSE 13 is still available from Adobe and at a discount, went looking as there were still copies on Amazon. £55.37 inc VAT for standalone I think. Offer at the moment, if I upgrade from 11 its £64. I assume that 13 will have the organiser. I was looking at the whole cloud thing and missed that elements is stand alone, I thought it had gone cloud with the rest.

Then Amazon doing a download for 49 notes? Not sure what that entails with Amazon software library?

Gave up on apple photo products years ago, Lightroom just kick's ass
I am very much the amateur and iPhoto did just work. It was quirky in the way it handled the pics but slot the camera on the computer on off it went. I just backed up those libraries as a whole.

I did try the free trial of Light Room but found I preferred the PSE organiser. That was some time ago, I was going to try it again to see what improvements and saw the PSE 13 on offer, think that offer has ended now. iPhoto worked for me, I used that as the organiser and PSE as the editor. I was about to get standalone LR but saw the offer for PSE and it will do what I want and £50 difference was a clincher. So dumping Apple as a photo tool anyway, means re organising the lot but keeps me off the streets.

Guessing the offer on PSE was timed but wonder if they would have had a big take up on LR?
