I've been using APS-C Canons for a few use. Fancy a change. If I got for a mirrorless Sony with a 1" sensor, will I be happy with the quality of images? Something like RX100.
Other option is to look at full frame but getting tired of carting lenses & gubbins around

I have all the DSLR gubbins, which I take out once a week (ish), but I have a Sony a6300 with a prime lens in my jacket pocket every time I'm out. Most of my photos now taken with the smaller Sony. It's better image quality than the RX100, (DX sensor), but still needs a decent size jacket pocket!

(When I don't have a jacket, the RX100 sits in my jeans pocket - and lives in my car)
Is the 6300 PQ the same as the DSLR?
And how does the smaller Sony with it's fixed lens compare ?

What do you want to "change", Ed?

would the grass be greener in a different sensor?
Pretty much what I'm hoping to work out. Ideally I'd get a full frame & enjoy the benefits of that.. but size & £ go against that. So wondering what other sensors achieve. Do like the idea of a smaller 'does the lot in your pocket' camera. The smaller Sony allows the little flash to bounce - something I'm amazed they dont all do. I refuse to arm flashes that cant be directed, as the results are just nasty & everyone's blinded.

Hmm the little Sony's sensor a lot smaller than my current Canon. Blast potential spoiler.

Think the trouble is I'm after the proverbial Moon on a stick.. DSLR quality, fits in my coat pocket, and not big bucks.
Going to wait for full reviews of the new smaller Sonys, but if the quality is not better than my 100D might need a rethink.

The major differences I have noticed between the 700D and the RX100 M3 are in the level of blurred background (Bokeh) that can be easily achieved with the 700D when fitted with the relatively inexpensive Canon 50mm f1.8 lens. I recently attended a wedding and managed to take some photos with the 700D which I was mighty pleased with. The RX100M3 also excelled itself at the do afterwards in lower light conditions when I didn't want to be lugging the DSLR around in, but the level of blurred out backgrounds was very poor.
I've got that same F1.8 lens & love a good bokeh shot. From your excellent posting I'm now thinking the small Sony isnt for me in that case.
Seems to boil down to the old car line 'there's no replacement for displacement' and a small camera wont satisfy after my 100D.

Must have read a million words covering dozens of recent camera reviews. These have convinced me Full Frame is what I 'need'. So that ends the hunt for a compact anyhow.

A quick look at ebay.co.uk shows you can get an A7 and 28-70 for £900 BIN and a RX100 mk4 is £800 new

You could probably get an a7 body for 600-700 and find a cheap lens to run on it.
What's the fit for the lenses? Assume my box full of Canon/Sigmas wont be any use?

It's a mk1. I assume you know there's a mk2?
I do but it's purely a hobby camera.. the earlier one may well but a good first step into FF without breaking the bank

If the OP doesn't want to spend on the A7 body, you can pick up the A6000 for about £340 on eBay which is a bargain, and a bit smaller again than the A7.
I've bookmarked a couple of MkI A7 with kit lenses on the Bay.. if they dont go up too high I'll save a punt.
Think whatever I end up with, if it's not got a large sensor giving good bokeh I'll end up dissatisfied . Looks like a small camera wont be as good as my 100D so what's the point.

what he said... (or the 35mm 2.8) should be your 1st purchase!
Got a 50mm for my Canon & cant always get the shots I'm after. So yes seriously considering that 35mm 2.8.

To update.. had a slightly shaky start with the Alpha, but mostly down to me not putting the time in. Quite like it now
I've just bought myself a Zeiss 24-70mm FE lens & will stick the kit lens away. Should up the photo quality further.
