Thank you to Beggarall for picking my photo from the December competition. I really didn't expect to win, so its taken me a little time to come up with something for the January competition.

As well as motorsport, I'm finding that I quite enjoy landscape and architecture photography. I've tried a few early-morning outings recently and one one such trip, I tried to take a shot of the sun behind a line of trees projecting sunbeams through the heavy mist. As I'm still an absolute novice, what I got was a grey and white blur.

So - this month's competition is "Mist" - you can include "Fog" if you like. It can be a moody shot of far-away hills through the haze, a spooky woodland shot, mist settled in a valley, tall buildings poking through low-level fog (or smog?). As this is PH, you could have traffic crawling along a foggy motorway or even have race cars kicking up a mist of spray during a wet race.

I'm looking for something that makes you think - one of those special "chance" shots or just something with the "wow" factor.

Good luck!

Rules
The photos taken must be your own work
The competition will run from the first to the last day of the month.
The winner from the previous month decides on the topic for following month and judges it at the end of the month
Entries and discussion on this single thread please.
All entrants acknowledge that they may indeed win and that their adherence to convention ensures everyone else's continued fun.
Photos entered should be no bigger than 750 pixels wide for a landscape photo and 600 pixels high for a portrait photo due to the PH squash factor. Links to larger versions are permissible.

Will the mods please make this a sticky? Thanks

Wow - coming up with a subject was hard work, but judging the entries was even harder. I'm deeply impressed with all the entries - I would be proud to say I'd taken any of them - I need some more misty practice!

I started to make a list of "Honourable mentions" but I found I'd listed half the thread. So - "Very Honourable Mentions" go to R1GTR for the camera-phone shot of the misty valley - great shot for a phone and I liked the huge distances covered by the mist. rst99 for The Eileans - I love the wide angle, distant mountains and big sky. Also mybrainhurts for the grass & distant valley shot - I liked the fine foreground detail and the mist leaving the treetops visible in the background.

However, this month's winner, for no other reason that I REALLY liked it, is DavidY's 'Into the Mist'. I love the way that the foreground shows the hard, harsh detail of the concrete castings, fading away along a shallow curve, with the lighthouse just visible in the background - lovely!
