Any interest in an S Club track day?
Discussion
Just gauging interest for the possibility of an S Club track day next year - I know it's a long way off but it's just to get a realistic feel for whether the idea has legs or not.
After my track day at Blyton Park Driving Centre last Friday, which is nr Gainsborough (Notts / Lincs boarder) one or two have suggested I look in to arranging similar for the S fraternity.
This link to my post should give an idea of the format and the fun to be had:

So, no commitment at this point in time but would anybody (else) be seriously interested in attending something similar, 1/2 day or full depending on numbers & format?

I've never done a track day either but I was scared to admit it in case there's some strange initiation ceremony!
This was my first ever and I'm doing the TVRCC one at Cadwell in Sept along with TopGearTVR.The beauty of this is the "safe" nature of the venue and format, which I think is a great introduction to track days / circuit driving.

Anyone know how sound level is measured, what revs, distance from tailpipes etc?
I didn't notice sound being specifically measured, but I understood it was a drive by measurement on the circuit at 20 metres which I imagine was being monitored in the control hut. No one was black flagged so I assume we all passed. The red tuscan 2S was I think the loudest on the day and he drowned my noise out. Think the level was/s 105db which is quite loud I understand.
Having driven behind you Mike on many occasions I think you'd be fine.

I would be another wanting to pop my track day cherry so to speak, but would be nice to do it with like minded folk. So subject to timing and cost, I'm in.

I reckon that's enough to suggest the idea has got legs.
As I said earlier, I can't squeeze another in this year but will put this on the back burner to sort something next year ;-)
It's only to gauge interest not a definitive attendance sheet. And certainly no one is excluded.

Might be worth speaking to somebody like Javelin. They arranged a day for Porsche 968 owners. It wasn't exclusive but we got first dibs on booking and the day was great. The day was at Bedford but they have access to a number of other tracks.
Depends what you want of the event - i can't see javelin adding anything other than a mark up to replicate what i attendded last Friday.my aim is to keep it compact and bijou in other words simple (like me)

...... I've only done 1/2 a trackday before and didn't like NOT being able to overtake in braking areas or corners!!) but this sounds like it may be 'more social'
sociable certainly, but as only one car on track at a time no overtaking anywhere, but also you go in to braking areas/corners as quick as you can/dare GadgeS3C said:
Just going to dangle this out there as a thought - shoot me if it's a dumb idea...
Max's trackday idea seems to have got lots of interest. Just wondering if the trackday could actually be part of next year's S-Club Heaven event?
I'm thinking if the track day was on a Friday a venue could be found to build in some camping and have a further meet/run out on the Saturday?
Thought I'd raise it here and see response - if positive I'll start a separate thread. But don't want to steal Max's thunder!

not shooting you down at all - the thought had crossed my mind (momentarily i might add) but i felt it too big a committment for me personally at the momment with work my loads currently.
I'm happy to tag anything on to this and support/work with someone organising SCH 2014 (or beyond) but increased numbers either changes the format (more on track at one time & possible price increase per person due to BPDC insurance) or reduces time on track (fewer laps to accommodate higher numbers but not necessarily reduced cost).

FWIW, those on classic car insurance may have track day cover included in their policy, but the day would have to be operated by an ATDO member (Association of Track Day Organisers). In my experience, Javelin are amongst the cheapest operators (no affiliation !). Anyway, keen on this as I have never tracked by TVR and think it might be quite interesting !
and to add, my Classic Insurance with RH includes track days if TVRCC organised, and i would try to get this under that banner as last Friday was.Max

Gary - good to see the good natured banter and no b!tchiness seen so frequently on other forums

I don't see why it couldn't be a TVR CC event, the venue is in EM and it is for TVRs so I think that fits the bill. TVRCC don't insure events, but can make it an official event. I'm not sure though if that would cause any issue for non-TVRCC people. Maybe if you send me an email I'll send it on, unless someone with more knowleged posts first of course. We could also discuss at Thoresby and RAF Scampton (your passenger has been cleared for that)
Thanks Dave, I was going to mail Paul and Colin to see how last Fridays Blyton event was set up. Appreciate TVRCC don't insure track days, but so long as I can get it classed as organised by TVRCC then many classic insurance policies should cover it for individuals. It will of course be each drivers responsibility to ensure they're covered. And finally there's no rush on this as I won't be organising until next year, this thread was to gauge interest before i set off on research.
Seems like a resounding yes on the interest front :-)

I'd echo that. Unless arranged by an ATDO registed company, my classic car insurance policy won't cover me. Affiliaction with TVRCC would not be enough. My policy is with Mannings UK.
I've found Javelin to be extremely good value relative to the other track day organisers. They have days at Blyton Park starting at £99 which is really as cheap as it gets for a track day.
Through the Porsche 968 forum they gave us first dibs to book on a day so although not exculsively for our use, it was predominatly so.
And this is where I/we can't please all of the people all of the time - my insurance cover for track days is (I think) only owners club organised events.I've found Javelin to be extremely good value relative to the other track day organisers. Happy to talk through at SCH but I can't see vast numbers for a purely S event which is what was trying to be arranged here, hence replicating the event I recently attended. TVRCC already do a TVR wide track day and so I can't imagine they'd want to sponsor another similar one.
All still early days and as soon as i have someting firmer i'll start a new thread to sign up to (not debate) ;-)
