Clutch slave cylinder removal helpful hints please
Discussion
Hi guys, encountered poor gear selection, found clutch slave cylinder weeping, trying to remove, bottom bolt no problem, top one wont budge, anyone done this with any handy hints. My knuckles are battered my patience short, and air a shade of blue...
Tried to loosen the bracket it fastens to but , No help, , this bracket wont actually come off will it,? seems to be held within the gearbox, not wanting to force it at all in case. Getting new slave cylinder, not worth a repair kit, have trawled the search facility, to get this far, but this morsel of information to remove the top bolt, would make quite a difference.

Ah thanks Mike, I have removed the bolt from the bracket at the front end and undone the pipe union so the whole assembly should come off to get at the top bolt... Great news I will restart the fight tomorrow after work. I was afraid the bracket was fixed inside the bell housing somehow, it wobbled but not free.
Still refused to pull free, pushrod wouldn't retract far enough to release the hooked bracket. So after much knuckle scraping found, in wisdom someone had put a 13mm nut on a 10mm bolt, the one you cannot see, and almost impossible to get to, so out now and off to match up suitable replacement. By luck found the jubilee clip, on the hose to the heater matrix connection just by the carrier bracket was heavily corroded, when touched fell off and water started weeping out, not something I would have noticed otherwise so saved a major water loss.
Tony, I purchased an FTC 5072 from Town and Country 4x4 in Cubbington, I took my old one and the carrier bracket, with me and the pipe complete with unions, The knowledgeable guy I saw tried a couple of different ones, the outer diameter of the body was larger on the first one and would not fit the bracket, second one ( the more expensive one ) fitted perfectly and both bolt holes lined up, and as a bonus the union fitted as well, but he was totally happy to make up a new pipe or swop any unions necessary. This was then a straight forward refit bleed and job done. I have not noticed any difference in the weight of the pedal, still quite heavy, compared to any of my other cars, and the pushrod is actually in the smaller hole of the fork. I know I paid more than some on EBay but having the two there to compare knowing all options are covered and instant, was worth it.
Exactly as I was thinking Tony, was the union the correct thread? Glad. All is well, and a lighter clutch, I got caught in traffic yesterday and now realise mine is lighter than it was as my left leg is not aching like it has been in the past. Oh and I admit my old fluid was very containated, so, Good news all round Sir. See you at the Festival of Motoring next week ?
