Hi all...

Guess who's gone & bought himself a great looking S3 only to find there extra ventilation holes in the outrigger chassis tubes !!!!
Here we go again I hear you say....
I'm an old hand with Classic cars, so no tears just yet... As I knew what I was taking on.
My first question of many no doubt is..... Can the outrigger section be bought already made up ?
So that I can just align it & weld onto the main chassis ?
Or if not where/who sells the right gauge of tubular steel (& what is it ?).
Regards..... Terry B.

Hi Guys... Many thanks for the replies so far.
I cant really see the extent of the corossion, but I think it will be the whole of the outriggers to replace.
Is the 35mm sleeve to fit inside the originals for alignment/support ??
Please dont expect me to get my hands too dirty just yet, as I hope to get the rest of the summer occasionally driving it ! Except for the grating noise on cranking. I have took the S.motor off & that runs okay & the ring looks reasonable, although I didnt rotate it to see all areas. The battery is pretty kn**kered. But I am not not going to spend on ANYTHING just yet.... Why !
Well I have a 2006 15k mile 3.0 AJ Jag engine in my garden shed !! And the plan is for that to go in. I know the engine will fit as I've seen it in a S3 on this forum... And I thought I would be the first !
I have already done an EFI conversion on a Cologne 2.8 running at 3.0 on an Emerald ecu. (non tvr).
As for the g-box, I'm not sure yet. Morgan mated this Jag engine to a Ford type-9, but I've had it with those. The Jag uses a Getrag 221 box (with not so ideal ratios), BMW uses a 220 box (with better ratios), it looks to be the same basic unit except for the bell housing which is integral, & the input shafts are different... So more research reqd. So I might as well start that part of the project once the body is off.
Yes, its a long term project.... Maybe into my retirement...lol.
The drivers door hinge is a bit sloppy, but I guess thats just hinge pins.
The seats bases are completely kn**ckered (Doeskin/Dirty cream) so might go for another seat... Does MGF or TF fit ?
As they look cheap & available. The rest of the interior is damn good, so that stays 'as is'.
TB.

Hi Damian...

Thats all very interesting, & info I am most grateful for, thankyou. As I prefer not to go down any known 'dead ends' ! I noticed from your posted pics that the anti roll bar had been moved & I guessed it was for sump clearance. Are the drop links custom made ? Maybe I shouldn't question you too much here as you might not want to post everything done.... Are you going to add more photos/info on your posting ? Or could I personal message you ?
I Would like to see the (under the sump) cross member details. And gearbox stickshift linkage details too.
Your engine has the early upper inlet manifold, my unit is a 2006 unit & slightly different, I hate its looks but will live with it for now, but Jevneys look good !!! I will look into re engineering the fly by wire throttle body to accept cable operation, or (as you) go for the Mondeo unit. My son is the auto electrician on the Nat Geo 'Car SOS' TV show. And we have both had contact with Dave Walker of Emerald ECUs... So thats my first choice, but also looking at DTA ecu's too. For 12months or so I will be just collating info & collecting parts/info. As my master plan is/was to leave the actual hands-on work until I retire (2-3yrs away). Plus its been said I have spent too much time restoring cars over the last 15yrs (hobby time). But will try to get some big spends out of the way before I retire & salary vanishes... And you never know might be allowed !!!! to do some work.... Just keep it quiet that I want the body off/on next spring/summer.... Which means I might as well do the engine fit too.... You get the idea I'm sure.
