Oh the joys of S ownership grumpy My S has thrown a couple of electrical gremlins at me. Fan stopped working, but works on the overide switch, the radio is dead, fuze ok and power from the ignition. Today I put a new battery on and it won`t even turn over rolleyes. Out came the trusty volt meter and I have power all the way to the ignition and to the start button, and have power to the solenoid cable, looks like the solenoid needs looking at. The annoying thing is I`ve just put the body back on. The volts gauge is reading only about 11 volts despite a new battery giving over 12. I`m itching to get it all sorted and get the old girl out again driving.

Have you checked the otter switch?
It`s a new otter switch, but I`ll check it with the volt meter, the car was running a few weeks ago on the key and button, no harm in checking the earth.

Steve,

Just the voltage thing would point to earths or a a "dry joint" in one of the major connectors. If I was you I'd take the earths off clean to barite metal and put back on with Vaseline covering, then split all the big connectors clean with contact cleaner and reconnect. When doing earths also do the starter motor.

Btw any sign of the cutter at work being back on line to do my gear stick surround?

Hope above helps and it runs fine afterwards

Mark
Guess I`m going to be busy down at the starter, the cutter at work also has electrical gremlins, I`ll get out the air tools mark thumbup

Don't worry about air tools mate I am happy to wait just you'd been quiet for a while so thought you'd become ...........chimerified.....?????? and fallen out of love with the S
laugh the Chim does have a certain charm to it, but my S needs TLC, I`ll chase the boys on the cutter and see if they have an update, failing that it won`t take long with hand tools mate wink

Steve,

I think Mark was asking if you've become Chimerified. yikesyikesyikes

But I think St. Athan is still a rebel S stronghold.
Beware the power if the Dark Side.
The S is a little bit poorly, doing silly shifts at work has cut down the available hours of tiv maintenance. I must admit that I`m itching to get the growler up and running again, soon ?

Mine is playing up too, 12v on battery, turns over very slow battery showing hardly anything while turning over [from cockpit]. Battery then about 11v after 1 try wont even turn. All starts and runs fine with jump. Was just going to change battery but could this be a bad earth? battery is only 18 months old car gets used at least twice a week.
Put a meter across the battery terminals to see what voltage you have, 12 volts should suffice. Then start the engine and measure the voltage at the battery again, it should read higher. I suspect though that your battery is on the way out.
