Found these stats from almost 5 years ago which may be of interest to S owners waiting for a result. Odds of a pass are pretty good though !!

Well it just goes to prove you don't always get what you pay for....
MOT failed on top steering column u/j ... the very same one I replaced only 2 years ago with a notably expensive £57.65 plus VAT, but available to collect same day.
So have bought the one for £19.95 plus vat and postage and will be patient until monday for delivery.

Don't expect the 19.95 one to last any longer if it is the same 19.95 plus vat one that I purchased from an often recommended vendor. Mine lasted less than a year before it too developed developed a bit of play. There is a lot of crap out there these days, it is the price we have to pay when purchasing pattern parts.

At least £20 every 2 years is better than £60 but plan to treat with loads of grease and wrap in an ex Rack gaitor, to keep weather out.
