Possible spares from a Ford Scorpio 2.9 V6

You all have a lot of experience with the S cars and I'm quite a newcomer here

I was wondering what is your opinion on buying an old Ford Scorpion 2.9 V6 to breakdown for spares ?
Possibly, close to where I live, I could get one which runs OK, but has just lost it's MOT, for < £400.

Does it make sense to consider this ?
Is it just the engine which is common, or are there other parts ? Suspension, Brakes, Transmission, etc.

Guys, thanks for the comments - these have been really helpful. I'm not sure if the car is auto or manual gearbox - I might take a look at it over the weekend, depending on how deep the snow is here !
