Afternoon to the collective.

There are a lot of historic threads about replacement fuel tanks, nothing recent though.

Does anyone know whether there is a suppier of stainless steel or ally fuel tanks available or if there is someone they recommend to make one up?

If bespoke is the only option, what to improve?

The level reader for a start.
Baffles.
That foam stuff inside the tank.

Anything else?

Lovely quality, had baffles but not foam (bit overkill in a road car anyway).
You're not trying hard enough wink

Samy undertakes track duties too so thought it might be a sensible option.

Thanks for the link I shall call them in due course. Might forego the replacement suspension for now.

Thanks!

Got to love the TVR Community. There are some big pluses for me to fit a custom item - which I have discussed with Radtech - but I am not automatically sold on the idea of replacement. I'll give the people above a ring tomorrow.

I know there's rust in the tank, just don't know how much. Given the opportunity I find myself in it would seem sensible to future proof the tank. The tank is full at the moment - and whilst it has been laid up.

It'll be pricey, but the Radtech option should be a spec, receive, fit and forget item. Not that it's a done deal. I'll see if I can find a local fabricator who can build a tank and incorporate my changes (baffles, foam and a new level indicator sender - ATE have been recommended) with out the need for micro managing.

If it turns out my tank is easily refurbed I'll offer it out to the community so that others can get a new tank without taking the car off the road for more than a day.

I do remember an old thread about someone doing them in stainless for £120 or something, but there being no interest. Shame.

I forgot about the fuel pump! I'll have another chat with Radtech as they had instant advice on a revised sender so I assume it's a regular change for them.

Reason for change? Well simplicity for doing the job for starters. Old one out, new one in. Baffles and foam will be a (hopefully not ever needed) safety measure for trackdays. Bit of weight saving too. Got to keep up with you V8 boys somehow wink

The extra capacity makes very good sense - for touring. But if you're concerned about weight and track-day performance note that the extra two gallons adds an extra 9Kgs to a full load, off set by whatever 50% of the weight of the tank might be. If it's performance you want then maybe go for a smaller tank and less weight all round. Sorry, just being logical laugh
Extra capacity good for the S Club Tour. As fot track duties, you shouldn't take a road car out on track with a full tank to avoid spillages. So no weight penalty smile

Just spoken to Stan Lamb at Hartlepool Radiators. Very helpful chap and their repair system sounds good.

Price wise it's about £30 in it to get a modified shell of a tank. The foam filling, alternative sender and integral fuel pump are the same cost. So I have a decision to make.

Hartlepool Radiators have a quicker turn around time at the moment, but this is (currently) not critical.

It may mean not filling up at all. Hopefully, the weight saving would enable me to get to the filling station sooner if I do need to fill up. biggrin

I shall decide over the wekend which way I am going to go. Order will be placed on Monday........
