Rattle free roof stay

This may be a bit too simple and obvious for this forum but here goes anyway. My rattling roof stays became too loud to ignore. I tried moving the fixing points to tighten them but this just resulted in excessive force required to push them over-centre. Then decided the simplest solutions are the best. 2 small pieces cut from a bicycle inner tube, slipped between the inner and outer section of each stay, retained in position by a dab of contact adhesive on the inside at the back. As the stay goes over-centre the edge of the rubber is trapped between the two parts of the stay. A bit agricultural I know but almost invisible in position and no rattle. Took all of twenty minutes.
