Has anyone fitted an alloy sump to a 2.9 engine?

I noticed last week that my engine mounts were sagging (again!) and decided to change them before the Eurotour and replace them with the stainless cup type from Burton Power, which I have done and the engine now sits well above the anti roll bar. The problem is that the steel is so thin that when I jacked the engine up it has split the sump, I could use a chemical metal type filler but am worried that it may not hold.

I can get hold of an alloy sump from a 2.9 scorpio but have'nt heard of anyone else fitting one, can it be done?

Alternatively has anyone got a spare steel sump they want to sell?

Cheers,

Paul.

Ohh, alloy sump? Is that a standard fit for a Scorpio or an aftermarket item?
It's off a Cosworth.

It's definitely off a 2wd car, the guy selling it seems to know his stuff, he's replaced steel sumps on granadas with these before, the only thing that I am worried about (apart from the fact that, in two weeks time, this car needs to be in Calais and the sump resembles a tea strainer!) is wether it is the same profile as mine and will not foul on the anti-roll bar.

Have you chopped the crossmember Paul so you can change with engine in?

I'm doing that today Mike, someone has already chopped it out once so it will look a bit of a mess!

According to the guy selling it, at the shallowest point (at the front above the anti-roll bar) it is 70mm which is about the same as the standard steel one but I will have a look at spacers when I get it home.

I have fitted the stainless steel cups to the engine mounts like you have which has given me a clearance of about 25mm between sump and ARB so should provide enough room. Have your engine mounts sagged at all since fitting the cups?

Cheers Tony, I've just been to get the new sump and it is the same as yours, I need to make a plate up to go over the oil return line hole then it should be good to go.

Have you used the stainless steel cups on your engine mounts? from the photos it looks like you have them on top of the mount (ie touching the engine) whereas I have them the other way round. Is there a right and wrong way to have them?
Cheers,

Paul.

when i did my mounts i was left with insufficient clearance at the top of the engine to the bulkhead.....

???
Was that when you jacked it up to get the old ones out / new ones in or with the new ones bolted down?
