so after months of back & forth chasing up mechanics, waiting for parts, i get my 'S' back yesterday, could hear new fan auto kicking in thought great finally all the overheating problems solved! Then it went in red zone, fan had blew fuse and old wiring was a no no
Drove to city centre today, it conked out & wouldn't start back up for a minute (been doing this once every journey i take)
think im at the end of my tether with this 'S' i just cant seem to get anywhere near fixing it after all the money ive ive spent.. full service, new spark plugs, thermostat, fuel pump, rad recore, silicon hosing, oil change, water pump, 14" 12v kenlowe fan..

  • update* overheating sorted, kenlowe fan wired in with correct kit, kicks in at 80°
  • update2* split in air flow meter cap & mixture settings way out were causing the sudden conking out
  • update3* continued to conk out within a minute or 2 of running, a corroded distributor cap may have been the culprit! Cleaned up refitted & ran smooth for now..

Thanks for the replys, it was fine when I drove it yesterday, the problem was a blown fuse to the fan and mechanic had wired it with existing instead of new wiring supplied with the fan kit.

So for the first time 'overheating' solved
As for the conking out.. It's near the start of the journey everytime itll do it once, always at stationary traffic or at traffic lights

Is this just bad idle or is it perhaps cold..? I've does it die as opposed to idle.?

Or just it suddenly stop?
ISCV issue perhaps?
Cheers

It may just be that its cold as it happens within first 5mins of journey, and suddenly stops. It's ticking over fine tho & starts up 1st time when I jump in, but struggles once it's conked out

I did have one on previous fan, its still there just not wired onto the new stuff. Pretty sure there's a switch control on this kenlowe under bonnet for manual override (just in case)

@lewdon, thanks for the reply, its been cutting out way before any chance of overheating usually within the first 5mins of a journey. Now I got the fan sorted an temperature staying at around 80° I'll monitor if it still cuts out, I've been told to check the coils & ignition module so hopefully one of them may be the cause.

@phillpot thanks for the advice, I have spoke with greymrj he said to consider the ignition module & coils.
Shall have a chat with Barry at car show on Saturday as the NEC is 10mins away from me

It's difficult because im relaying the info back & forth to mechanic as I'm not clued up working around engine area

haha to be honest after that fan scenario I was ready to give up! I only use it at weekends so sadly that method doesn't work well laugh
I think the only tvr place near me is 'Powers Performance' maybe they could solve this cutting out issue (at a big cost I bet)

As always guys thank you for sharing your knowledge, the more I read up about this issue the more I think maybe the 'ignition module' is the culprit, as greymrj first pointed out.

If this isn't the cause then the chat i had with adrien earlier will point me in the direction of the cold start injector, thermo time switch scratchchin

So I just fitted new ht leads, i noticed when taking out the old ones there was one that looked slightly broke & two which weren't numbered, got my 'S' bible out, put the new ht leads in as shown, ran car for a good 30minutes 1. No overheating with the new fan auto kicking in at 80° (finally) & 2. It did not cut out what so ever.. Now everytime I've ran the car within 5mins or less it cuts out, could the dodgy ht lead or maybe two mixed up wrong way round have been the cause?

biglaugh good point!

Right so about solving the issue.. Could the new ht leads i fitted be the fix to my current 'cutting out' issue? Or was it just pure coincidence it never cut out this time hmm
