S Club Euro Tour 2016 – 007 - Licence to Thrill

This, ladies & gents, is the plan for the Magnificent 7th S Club Euro Tour…

When Thursday 26th May until Monday 30th May

Where Somewhere flat. Via some hills

What After many years of Han and Anita travelling from Holland to meet us, in 2016 we will going to them. Our eventual destination will be the Dutch TVRCC Oldies and S Series meeting at the Dutch National Military Museum.. “Oldies” and “S Series”… If ever there was a combination to excite the Gentlemen’s Touring Section, this must be it

The original intention was to go somewhere else but Han suggested this event in this topic and it attracted so much interest that it seemed sensible to use the original 2016 plan next year and head to Holland instead.

Format of tour is the same as previous ones:

1. 4 nights / 5 days, plus option to stay in Calais the night before.
2. 2 nights in one of the hotels is the normal approach but this time we’ve got 2 nights in 2 hotels which will make for a couple of more relaxed mornings rather than frantically re-packing every day.
3. Optional routes will be offered so you can do as much or as little driving as you want.
4. Hotels will not be 5 star palaces but will offer a good standard of food and accommodation, be as reasonably priced as possible, etc.

Due to the short amount of time to plan this tour the exact routes are still to be confirmed but enough research has been carried out to confirm there are plenty of the quiet, flowing twisty roads we love to fill each day.

Wednesday 25th May
Day 0
Home > Calais

We will be leaving Calais after breakfast on Thursday so there will be the option of staying in Calais on Wednesday night for those who want to break their journey from the UK, get the one hour time difference out of the way overnight and start Day 1 refreshed after the slog round the M25 and through Kent. For any first timers thinking of attending, most people on previous tours have taken this option but you do not have to.

We will meet anyone on the northern ferry route and “the mainlanders” at lunchtime.

Thursday 26th May
Day 1 - Calais > Luxembourg
300 miles / 6.00 hrs

An easy first day a couple of hours of motorway to get us into the Ardennes, where the fun will really start.

Friday 27th May
Day 2 – circular route
150-220 miles / 4.5-6.00 hrs

There is plenty of scope for excellent roads today so 2 routes will be offered of different lengths.

Saturday 28th May
Day 3 – Luxembourg > Eindhoven
tbc miles / 4.5-6.00 hrs

Today we will be passing through Helmond. No, not that “Helmond” Province, this one, which is where Han & Anita live.

Sunday 29th May
Day 4 – Eindhoven > Show > Eindhoven

Han has already worked out a scenic route to get us to the show. I don’t know how long it is but it must be a reasonable length because he claims it has 7, yes SEVEN, hills!

Monday 30th May
Day 5 – Eindhoven > Calais
180 miles / 3 hrs

Prices

Double or twin £270 (+£42 for Calais)
Single £364 (+£55 for Calais)
The TVR show (12.00-17.00) is free, entrance to the Military Museum is €12.50 per person.

Important note - If after paying you are unable to attend I cannot guarantee a refund will be available but I will do my best to get your money back by contacting the hotels and / or trying to fill your place with someone else.

What's included:

• 4 nights bed, breakfast and evening meals (the extra night in Calais will be booked as B&B due to some people arriving late but dinner will be available).
• Satnav files & maps.
• Unbelievable memories, great friendship and 51 dull weeks ahead of you waiting for the next tour.

What's excluded:

• Channel crossings.
• Dinner in Calais.
• Lunches.
• Fluids (beer & petrol).
• Anything else not mentioned in "What's included".

Who can come?

This is a tricky one which is getting trickier every year as each tour seems to be more popular than the last.
There are a limited number of rooms at the hotels but how many people can come will be determined by the number of single, double and twin rooms we need.
This is an “S Club” tour so preference will be given to S owners past & present or those who have already been on tour in another TVR model and are part of the S family. If you do not fit those criteria but still want to come please let me know and I’ll contact you if there are spaces remaining. I hope you all understand.

If you have not been on one of these tours before, do not worry:

• Everyone was a first timer once. 2015 had more new people than any other tour since the first one way back in 2010. Most said they enjoyed themselves…
• Racing is not allowed. You are free to drive at your own pace, whether that's like a bank robber or at a more sedate pace.
• You do not have to follow the routes offered and can plan your own day if you wish.
• It is not a problem if you do not have a satnav, there are usually plenty spread through the group and we have not lost anyone yet. Well, not for long anyway.
• The people coming on these tours cover a broad range of ages so do not think you are too young or too old... or too middle aged.
• If you have not done anything like this previously and are worried, do not be. There will enough technical knowledge (NOT mine!) and spare parts in the group to build an entire car.

Next steps

Every year I find myself having to chase people for deposit and balance payments. To make things easier for me I was going to waive the deposit this year and ask for 1 payment in 3-4 months time. But that was when the tour was taking place in September…

By changing the date to May I don’t think it’s fair to ask you to pay in full at such short notice. However the hotels are (understandably) asking for a sizeable deposit to be paid soon. I will therefore need a 50% deposit from everyone by the end of February with the balance paid by the end of March. This is so I can meet the hotel deadlines without needing to cover the costs for anyone who has not paid me.

If you would like to attend please add your name to the list below and send me an email. Please mention any special dietary needs in your email so I can tell the hotels.

I will reply with details of how to make your payment and also send you a disclaimer which must be signed by you and your passenger. Please return this when you pay your deposit. Due to the way these tours have grown I’m afraid this has become a necessary formality. I know we all go on the tours understanding what is involved but if there is a terrible accident I do not want me or my family to be financially at risk.

At this stage if you are not sure you can come I suggest you contact me anyway so I have you on the list but please remember I cannot confirm your place until you have paid your deposit.

Approx 1 month before we set off I will send everyone satnav files and the PIMP (Project Implementation Plan) which is an informal document containing maps, daily notes, a list of useful things to remember, etc.
