I managed to find an FAI boot kit which was near-as-dam-it the same as the original...



The only catch was that the internal diameter of the boot at the rack end was a bit smaller than the original. This might not have been a problem if the rack ad been on the bench, but trying to slip the tight rubber tube onto the rack on the car was definitely going to be difficult. Time for a cup of tea....

Find a plastic tube which fits over the steering rack casing...



Cut like this...



Slip the boot over the plastic tube....



Cut like this....



Slide onto the rack casing...



Pop out the two bits of plastic tube and job done...





And as always, when dealing with rubber and tight spaces, use plenty of lube. That's right isn't it Glen? laugh
