I'm working on an idea for a better indicator repeater. Has anyone got an old/scrap steering wheel boss cap to fit a boss with an ID of 82mm (Moto-Lita). I have a new one here but I'd rather experiment on a scrap one first before drilling and cutting my nice new one.

Nice. This is mine..

The cunning plan is to drill holes in the center of the cover around the badge, and fit a circular LED behind so the lights shine through the holes.

Also looking for green plastic rod to put in the holes. A bit like this but smaller, say 7mm.

That's the jobbie thumbup

Phillpot's suggestion would be more noticeable though, but as it's magnetic I'd have to glass a metal plate to the underside of the bonnet to give it something to stick to. I'll try the boss cap first I think, like this...

I wonder if my cunning plan isn't quite cunning enough? Will the circular LED work with power from the standard flasher unit? scratchchin

..I think Philpotts idea is a good one, but the base of the light should be stuck to the horn boss.

... I'm curious how you will get power through the column? ....
Simple. Just a length of light wire, coiled so as to allow it to stretch as the wheel is turned, and earth to the boss.

You don't want to believe everything you read in a wiring diagram laugh

Mock-up seems to work...

Relying on the earth through the steering column is a bit iffy though.

Any ideas on where I can get some green plastic or glass rod to reflect the light through the boss cap?

Having the 'TVR' badge on the cap light up would be neat.

Like this...?

I did think about that but I wasn't keen on the idea of the bulbs poking up through the plastic cap.

I'm using the green/brown trace wire on the flasher relay to work the repeater light. This works fine for the LED and the little beeper I have connected as well. However, when a normal bulb is connected it causes the whole circuit to flash quickly when the stalk is in the middle/off position. Signaling left or right, it works fine, and with the hazard's it works fine as well. But with the ignition on, the rapid flashing starts again as soon as the stalk is returned to the middle position. There seems to be about 7v flowing from this wire with the ignition on and with the stalk in the middle/off position.

Any idea what's going on here? Why does it work fine with the LED's and the hazard's but not with a normal bulb?

I didn't really want the effect of the top part of the bulb sitting in a hole. What I'm after is a green light/reflector sitting flush and smooth with the face of the plastic boss cap. Does that make sense?

I didn't realise I could polish off the top of an LED. The penny drops. Thanks Pete thumbup
