Headlight electrical gremlins

Having purchased new headlights, I`ve recently connected and fitted them only to find, no lights. Further investigation reveals no tail lights either, I`m going to start fault finding but where is the dim dip module on an S2 ? Can anyone shed some light on this, pun intended

Hello Magpies, yes, I`ve got the bible with the wiring diagram in it. I`ve only had a quick check so far. No voltage at the light connectors or at the fuze.

It can just be unplugged.

However I'm curious as to why you suspect this? Did the lights work ok before you replaced them? Assuming they are the same basic type they shoul just plug in. I would check the connector and replace if required they can corrode badly.

While you are at it I would check the earth at the headlamp end.. Mine were terrible so I renewed and it made a huge difference.

Hi Daiman, the lights were working before I replaced them, I had one sidelight bulb that failed. So as the lights were showing signs of rust I decided to replace them. I`ve got the wrong item in mind, it should be the relay that I suspect, the wiring diagram is not to clear for my old eyes

Hi Joe, yes, of course, but I have no 12v at the fuse, so further investigation is required

Do you have power at the switch on the steering column? If you haven't already done so take this off and give the contacts a clean, and check your supply to the terminals on the ignition switch while you're in there. If you still have the dreaded yellow connector, check that as well. Pull it apart because it might look OK on the outside but be toast inside.

Thanks Joe, the dreaded yellow connector was chopped out some years ago, I have indicators so I think the ignition switch is fine, when I have some spare time I`ll check out the system from the headlight switch, relay, fuses etc, thanks.
