Well i planned to just get the new stainless manifolds, water pipes & swirl pot on.. (thanks shauns3c)
It was surprising what the chassis looked like underneath with everything out the way, a state to be honest although still solid, there is spots of surface rust etc & i just couldn't ignore it so ive made the decision to 'go to town on it' with Tony at TJ Auto's in Coventry who's carrying out alot of the work & has worked wonders on this 'S' for me

-Pile of parts to be shotblasted, resprayed
-Any rusty bolts, washers, nuts replaced
-Chimaera front brake upgrade (thanks Mike wink ) might aswell replace brake lines with stainless braided
-treat chassis with some proper stuff, may even get some heatshield for the bulkhead
-VHT paint for the engine block etc
-Bonnet hinge mod, after seei'ng my good friend Mikes again (trendsetter you)

and the lovely welds on the new stainless swirl pot from ShaunS3c

If that's your workshop, do it yourself!

If an S has got this far and hasn't had the body-off, it's probably going to need it. That's my experience anyway.
No sadly it isn't, i just haven't got the space. Hmm i think your probably right judging from the engine bay chassis, ill have to weigh up the options

Wait until winter maybe?
Otherwise you'll lose the summertime use of the car

I would have to send Uma Therman after you. yikes

Hope you soon get your S back on the road in top form. Otherwise I couldn't bear the thought of the mess.

Meanwhile, back on topic...... smile

Few more snaps from up at TJ Auto's, I cant be sticking nice stainless manifolds onto a grubby engine block now can i wink

Well gents it would appear the gods are not in my favour.. Front Outriggers are completely shot, passenger side barely anything left cry

Now the rest of the chassis is pretty damn good & back outriggers are good so the question is do I splash out on full body lift or just replace front outriggers?

Whole chassis, every time. The rest of the chassis will have an issue, somewhere. Do it once, do it right smile
thanks, think i know what route to go now smile

in oppose to zinc primer & powdercoating to the chassis, has anyone tried 'U-POL Raptor' they use it on marine vehicles etc, looks to be really sturdy stuff, waterproof, rustproof, the full works

You'll be lucky if you don't end up with a hole in at least one of those rear arm hangers after shot blasting. And you really do need to get that one shot blasted, you're cheating yourself if you don't. Don't be one of those people who thinks wire-brushing is as effective laugh

It'll be good when done though smile
laugh yeah theres bound to be a swiss cheese effect somewhere, its being shotblasted tomorrow, as you said 'do it right, do it once'

I used something similar when re-painting my chassis. A two component PU/epoxy based paint. As Kitchski says, it goes on well and really is very tough. I did mine by hand with a roller/brush (because I'm a mean ol' git !) and it took me 10 hours to completely cover the chassis with one coat of paint. Put on 3 coats in total.
Quite a relaxing job really, with Radio-6 on in the background.
smile
or maybe some drum'n'bass on loud & go at it like an absolute madman for a few hours laugh

Hi v8250, nice to hear someone has used the raptor, never seen it on a classic car until now & wow the finish is better than i initially thought, looks awesome! 4litre v8 griff in there cool. I dont suppose it was you parked next to me at the classic car meet up at the 'Black Boy' in Knowle last month?

Ive got the starter kit in black & going to use it on the complete chassis & few parts like battery tray, fuel tank etc
