I found these guys today, have spoken with them and they seem confident that they can repair the pitting and re chrome both the petrol cap and door handles.

I'm sending them off for a quotation, I'll keep you informed.

Update,
I received a call from them to say it arrived safely and that the inspection had been carried out. This was a couple of weeks ago. They saw no problems with repairing and rechroming it.
Costs were discussed and the go ahead given, I should receive it back this coming week.

As Philpot says it's all to often a case of supply and demand.

I don't think the price they have quoted is unreasonable given the rarity of the caps, i should imagine having a new one machined would be well over double the price ... and some.

They also do the door handles, something i'll consider if the cap comes back OK.

A before and after pic, if im super critical there are a couple of polishing swirls in the finish but other than that it looks great, well worth giving these guys a go.

I think they price according to repairs required, mine was £75.00 plus the dreaded.

I posted originally, the refurbished cap has now been on the car for a couple of years.

In that time I’ve covered over 10,000 miles, to date the cap still looks as good as the day I fitted it.

I actually sent mine in for an appraisal, when they called me they gave me a price and also said that they couldn’t guarantee the finish, I decided to go ahead, I’m glad I did. It looks so much better.

Incidentally, I bought this last year from Neil at ML performance parts. The only downfall is you need to use the existing button and base/hinge. If they are bad too it won’t look to good.
