I have 7 points on the static timing mark on my engine....

The Haynes manual shows 5 timing increments ie 03,06,09,12,15 and recommends 8 degrees BTDC. I've marked the 3rd one in on the assumption that this is 9 degrees BTDC but how do I know for sure what the pointers on my static marker indicate? The plate is too corroded to read off any markings.

Ah..ha. So the first one is 3 degrees after TDC, then TDC and then as per Haynes. Thanks for the responses. More white paint required then thumbup

Will do. Once the fuel tank job is finished, the next task is adjusting the tappets so I can kill two birds with one stone. Thanks Pete thumbup

Red TDC mark subject to a manual check using this little gadget I bodged up 40 years ago. No prizes for guessing what it started life as.
