Hi! Well, long time no update...

Previous threads for continuity:

And so it begins...
The engine is OUT!
Chassis Strip Complete
Rebuild Updates!
Engine Rebuild

Today was the day! The body is now back on the car. Photo's of the big day below - the rain did not dampen our spirits!! It went on much easier (surprisingly) than I was expecting - mostly due to the fantastic advice provided by those who have gone before me smile Not drilled and bolted yet, got a bit more work to do to fully settle it down on the pads, but generally seems to sit nicely.

Really pleased to have it back on. Next major stages: get engine started then booked in at Surface and Design end of February followed immediately by D & C trim. I needed to get the engine running so I can get it back up our steep drive when it comes back - likely S&D will take the body back off to be honest as the bulk head is in a right state. Hoping to have ready to get on the road to run in over the summer and be ready to use for a trip in September smile Might not have all the mods done I hoped to by then, but hopefully sorted enough to have an MOT and be usable

This is how I have had the body stored for the last.... bl**dy hell, just over 2 years!

Once the muscle had arrived, the rain eased and we moved the body off it's stand and outside

A few pictures of the chassis and engine before the lift. Still a couple of fuel one connections to finish but other than that everything together.

Twin swirl pots the fantastic work of ShaunS3c

Have to say I'm pleased with the results so far, but I'm well ready for some professionals to help me out and get it back on the road now...had enough of living without it, so desperate to get it on the road!

It will do eventually....! Fuel tank to pump. Unfortunately I routed incorrectly and it is now cut too short - new one on the way to replace the one in the picture.

That'll be my V8s on the ramp.

What colour have you chosen?
Very nice!! I'm sticking with the same colour which we think is cooper green. Believe you are going for something a little different! Glad yours was in though, I'm having a few of the same mods - we will have matching bonnet hinges at the very least!! Yours are fitted and look a really nice job :-)

Looking awesome! Done mine chassis black too but with silver suspension arms, so which manifold wrap have you used? I got some 'lavawrap' but i really do dislike the colour of it.. brown vomit
It's thermotec exhaust wrap which I got from Burton power. Wasn't sure it was going to work but quite pleased with the result in the end - time will tell if it stays wrapped....!!

Having any interesting mods ?
Nothing that I haven't stolen from other people's ideas! Having:
- petrol cap moved inside the boot (per Philpot design)
- open wide hinges
- roof storage 'cupboard' from parcel shelf into boot which a few people have done
- new mirrors - got unpainted new MX-5 mk1 set which S&D will paint the same colour as the body

That's all I can remember at the moment!

....and yo u can lay in, in the morning rather then setting off early in the mg to arrive at the same time as the TVRs
rofl

The great thing about the very orange MG was when it was at the back of the convoy it was easy to spot "x" hundred yards away so the lead car would know everyone was there. Andrew, are you sure you don't want an orange S? smile
I really hope it will be ready!! MG is the back up plan yes

I think there is only room for 1 orange car in my fleet Ian - and I don't plan to spend quite so much time at the back in the TVR, although if the current trend continues everyone else witll have a v8 by September and I'll be in the same position - short of a few litres!!! laugh

This project is looking amazing, Looking forward to next picks.
Where did you get your pipes done?
Thanks! Which pipes do you mean? If air intake ignore them - they were a set I got for a fiver but they are no where near strong enough. I've half made some replacements using 60mm silicone hose and 45 degree joiners (needs 2 per pipe). Will send photo when finished. I did also order a set of originals off TVR parts as they were listed on the website but he can't currently find the stock....

Hi Andrew, do you recall how much you used?
Hi there!

I used 2 x Thermotec exhaust wrap 1"x50' graphite. It took a couple of goes for me to get the wrapping right and my second manifold I did a better job than the first to be honest.

I started at the engine end and wrapped the outlet at the end first to just past where the second outlet is, then cut and restarted from outlet 2, wrapping tightly to grip the first piece in place. Same for outlet 3. That got me pretty much the whole way down the manifold and I used a large size stainless pipe clamp to grip it just before the pipe flares to join to the hockey sticks.

One for each side JUST makes it, but it's touch and go depending on the overlap.

Hope this helps!

Andrew
