can anyone help with the hanbrake cable. Ive fitted rear discs to a drum brake S1 and everything is just hunkydory except for the cable. I have a V8S cable and the inner is around 650mm to long, TVR parts tell me that this cable, which is listed for Chims supercedes the old cable, but it dont fit my car!

Yes calipers are at the top but as the outer and inner attach to the caliper its orientation is irrelevant, the inner cabble extends 650mm past the caliper on one side when everthing else is in place.
I've looked at a V8 s chassis and all the mountings are in the same location.

Cable is Ford Sierra based but shortened.

Mike modified a Sierra one himself. I think the last one Racetech had has long since sold. One of our Eastern European members has a cable maker near to him and got a one off special made for reasonable cost.

What is the fitting issue? Irregardless of whether you have the right cable or not, connecting them can be hard. I would disconnect it from the lever, set the adjuster to max slack, connect to callipers, connect to lever and then take up the slack.

car looks like this right now, so access is not an issue.

I used a Caterham from a de-dion axle, nice fit and just the right length. you could ring them and ask the length. they do 2 but I think the other is for the live axle and is longer

How did you get round the lack of a quadrant, or did you use your old one?

Turns out Caterham spares dept is just round the corner from me, and quite close to the company modding my prop shaft, so I'm off there on Monday.
Thanks to you all for the help.

Stupid question maybe, but could you try fitting it the other way around ie put the longer end to the caliper on the other side?
No. Its the overall length thats wrong, or more correctly the 2 outers are ok but the inner is to long. TVR Parts now recognise this but it will take a while to get new ones so I will use Alan Whitakers solution.

Being so close you could bring the finished artical to this weekly meet - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
The weather should be better by the time this is ready. Roof down is one thing, but no body or wheels is something else!!

Hi Alan I never liked how the cable ran so I welded up a second bracket. The cable ran between the body and the chassis. In my centre consul I have a storage thingy, Made the bottom removable so I could get to adjust the cable, I uses the old adjuster bracket for the stop end and welded the adjuster between the top rails.
Picture not to clear but I have a better picture if I can find it

I also used the Caterham de dion clevis and pulley Just a bit smaller than the TVR
the cable run is crap, mine fouls the chassis rail so i was planning to move it. like the idea of an openable hatch in the box.

This is not really going to help you I'm afraid, but I did this conversion last year at about this time. I got a new (and correct length) handbrake cable from TVR Parts.

I must say they were not super easy to deal with, but to be fair they sent the right one in the end. I've just looked up the invoice, but sadly they were still calling it a V8S cable. When I dealt with them though, they had two lengths, but they seemed to be stored all together. I would have thought after our conversation, they would have split them but it seems not.
I had a very similar experience when talking to them, been very helpful on other stuff though, I guess it depends on who answers the phone.
