So, after some 18 years languishing in the outlaws garage then its new luxury purpose built garage, Ive finally made a start, despite all the help on here it still refused to fire so Im going on the fact that it used to run OK and that by a thorough rebuild Ill eliminate any fault there. The chassis had outriggers and welding done along with new shocks, a new steering rack (last one I was told) so Im hoping body off, blast clean and paint/powder coat the chassis and all its bolty on bits should take care of that. The body was always going to be the time consuming bit, no time scale, it always was my retirement project, Ive not quite retired but here we go, more news as it happens

Its metallic black, the red bonnet was a 2nd hand one I aquired donkeys years ago, more repairs on the original bonnet than there was original blackpool build https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/imgs/2.gif

Just have, I think us older folk still like Pistonheads smile I designed the garage to accomodate the collection and have space to work then put a house beside it, priorities.

Doesnt seem to have taken to long to get everything undone and disconnected, Ive now rolled under the 4 post and attached strops to rear, pity I dont have another couple for the front or the body would be off. Troops bribed and coerced to attend BBQ here next sunday after local car show, Ill save the lift till then. Ive been lucky with body having partial lift 18 years ago and it being in storage since, all the bolts have come free easily.
Anyone managed to get a new loom anywhere, Autosparks dont have a pattern for a S2

So local car show yesterday, bribed my fellow Suburu owners to a barbeque and body lift, theory was good but in hindsight could have been better, will know when it goes back together, no surprises, strip down and blast the chassis next, see what we find

So 14 months later, took a bit longer to get retired, retire and actually get back to TVR, finally got it stripped, outriggers had been done before I tucked it away 20 years ago, blinkers on, didnt expect this

Planning getting chassis blasted first in case there is more and hopefully reveal extent of this, whats the verdict should I patch or get a replacement bit of tube, how long should I cut back and who is best to get it from?

You are right, took 5 months from retirement to getting to TVR, had a few distractions, holidays, garden, looking after daughters dog etc etc, one thing 1 was pleased was that I only broke to bolts (so far) one one steering rack mounting, other is more problematic, rear diff top rubber mounting bolt to chassis

Well finally got the call from the blasters and went to see results, no more nasty holes, just the ones Id seen, so will be able to patch the bits that need, one of the rear round uprights at the tank mount need replacing as well so pleased with that. Put a post on the Facebook group for getting stell and got some help there, got square tube ordered, ive got round left from the outrigger replacement all those years ago, hopefully get it all welded up and painted at start of next year then start planning from there, Id stopped planning in case it wasnt fixable, more news when I have it.

Hi Mick, Ive had a long time to read thoses threads, joind PH in 2005, looking at photos here, car was MOT'd in 2006 Ive been planning rebuild since then and spent hours reading all the best ways to protect the chassis along with the best wide bonnet solutions smile, decided to wait till now and take blasters advice, we briefly spoke about an aluminium based product which I asume is the Jotamastic type stuff, they are normally working on kit for the north sea so they know what they are speaking about, ive got steel tube on the way, the blasters dad was a coachbuilder so he is doing the welding will make the final decision after that, I think colour is only thing I need to decide, I think Ill keep it black. Ive also read the Jag conversion stuff as I have a non starting engine but realised I would need a kit of bits to do it, engine mounts, exhaust manifolds chassis modes etc I havnt got the skills and as I repeatedly say a lot of the skills and suppliers are just not here or just not financially viable so if you feel like supplying a set let me know soon smile Thanks for all the support to you and the others out there
