Last weekend I flew to the south of France, collected my Dad’s old TVR S2, and drove it the 1,500 miles home to Glasgow (with a stop-off in York to take it to SD Autotec for a good check over).

This may not have been my smartest ever idea, in a car that hadn’t driven in three years … but the whole journey went without a hitch! The S2 was solid and (dare I say it) reliable the whole way.

I think that was enough hours behind the wheel to say the I’ve well and truly got used to the car.

It’s now sitting safely under a cover in my barn while I wait for the DVLA to help me re-register it as a UK car again. But … I guess I’m now officially a TVR owner.

I admit, I had to put the roof up for the Portsmouth to Yorkshire leg of the drive. It rained. Typical England …

I know this feels like resurrecting the thread again, but today I finally got the V5 for this TVR delivered.

The DVLA have been helpful but reeeally slow to sort it out. First the import duties with HMRC (it was exempt as an inheritance) then type approval (again, exempt because it’s originally British anyway) then reassigning it’s old numberplate, then applying three times for the V5 because they kept getting details wrong (little things like registering in the name of my late father instead of in my name …)

Feels like I’ve finally sorted it all now. The car is legally British and legally mine. I can insure it now. Then start planning for an MOT.

First job will be changing the numberplates. Who knew French ones had to be riveted on? They do, apparently.

Probably not. It passed the French equivalent easily enough before I drove it back.

But there are a few things I need to sort before I’ll feel it’s usable, so I may as well do them at the same time as the MOT. The radiator needs re-cored. It needs a new starter motor. And ideally it needs some investigation into why the speedo floats up and down instead of sitting steadily on a speed.

The wing mirrors are as much use as a chocolate teapot, I fancy changing those. But maybe that can wait.
