This should be a simple question (I hope) but I can’t see any other threads about it on the first few pages …

The parts list recommends a battery for the S-series. The Lucas P/N YUA 069/3.

My battery’s knackered. Won’t take a charge, even from a reconditioner. Before I go ahead and order one of the Lucas batteries, has anyone has success fitting something easier to get hold of, without needing to modify anything to make it fit (or use a strap to hold it in)? Something like a Bosch, for example?

No real reason, just wondering if there’s options out there that fit perfectly and don’t need one.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like I’m 90% likely to end up needing to use a strap anyway so I might as well buy a beefier, easier to find locally, battery after all.

I also need some ramps to lift the front end up so I can open the bonnet properly! Welcome to S ownership, I guess …

Typical of most car communities, I think. Which is a shame. I avoid Facebook like the plague these days. Much prefer forums.

As for the bonnet hinges … I need to get my car back to full running health before I even think about starting to modify anything. One thing at a time! Battery, radiator, starter motor, manifold … and then an MOT.
