I was a bit surprised at how much interest there has been in the highly technical solution (ie bodge) I came up with for the air intake vents so here are a few close-ups for anyone thinking of doing something similar.

I have been out in some quite heavy rain and nothing came in. It was just the once though and if rain does get in I'll mount them on spacers so that they are in the air flow which comes over the wheel arch moulding.

Looks can be deceptive. Diameter of the original intake is 3.5cms so that gives an area of 9.62cm2. The vents measure 12.5cm x 1cm so that’s 12.5cm2 which is actually a 30% increase.

I thought they were Freelander but I've looked back through the receipts and they are in fact 2001 Defender Td5 post vents. Sorry for any confusion, hope this helps. Joe
