Hi all,

I have read this before but as usual the search is down so I can't find it. I wanted to buy a master and slave cylinder for the S as there is a leak somewhere so thought I'd just replace the lot.

I wanted to check the part numbers of the Land Rover cylinders that fit. I think they are;

Slave: 591231
Master: 550732

Can someone confirm whether or not these will fit. They look right but that never means it will actually fit!

I was intending on going down my local garage and see if they could make a flexible hose to link the two as I seem to remember its not an off the shelf pipe to connect them.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

ADDED:

To summarise the rest of the thread, both part numbers above are correct and fit. The threads in the cylinders are;

Slave - 7/16" UNF
Master - 3/8" UNF

Both use a concave fitting with a double flared pipe end (looks like you've squeezed a ring donut in the copper at the end of the pipe)

Barkychoc's post on page 2 (first post) has links to a supplier for the cylinders. Personally i got the pattern ones from that supplier through ebay.

Hello Tom,

The clutch slave is the correct one.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LAND-ROVER-SERIES-3-CLUTCH-S...

Not sure about the master sorry.
Have put a flexi braided pipe on mine.Makes sense to me.
Just watch the thread sizes on both as I believe they are UNF and not metric.
Other thing to watch is the rod that fits into clutch fork plate this wears and becomes slotted almost to the point you believe it should look like it.
Can be filled with weld and remade.( Could have posted a link if the search thingy was working)
cheers Andy

Ps see you in France driving
Cheers Andy,

I'll grab a slave cylinder and possibly a master on a punt. I was going to waterproof the master with some sikaflex as the old stuff is about as waterproof as a colander. I would prefer not to have wet feet on our little trip!

Can't wait though!

Right well I have the parts.

As the search function is down (is it ever working!) could someone enlighten me to the issue with the threads on the cylinders?

Anyone know if I'll need a need pipe or will my current one fit?

Tom

Tom,

Did you fit the Land Rover clutch master and if so, was it a direct replacement (except for the pipe fittings)?

Regards

Nigel
Yes and Yes.

Replaced both and apart from the fittings as you said they fitted fine. The bulkhead under my master wasn't in a great state though and there was no way to make a good seal without copious amounts of sealant to fill the holes. I fitted an aluminium plate under the master so hopefully my feet will stay dry!

The pushrod is a very simple part and the only problem with there being movement would be excessive wear between it and the clutch fork. I would have thought it would be relativly simple to pack it with something to stop the movement.

Has nick made a new pushrod?
