Shirley/Solihull Meeting SUNDAY 19th OCTOBER 11am
Discussion
Continued From http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
The date is now set for Sunday 19th October at 11am.
For those that entered YES or ANY for this date on the old thread I have entered your details, however if it is not suitable then let me know and I will remove your details.
For those wishing for the early start of 9am I hope you can enjoy the extra lie-in and still join us who don't like early Sunday mornings.
The meeting place is the new COSTA COFFEE see here
After the Introductions/Coffee/ and admiring the Exotica that are local to us I plan a relaxed convoy drive around some of our beautiful countryside and towns.
Not set in stone as I will do a pre run to see if it works but so far my thoughts are as follows....
A convoy drive will consist a duration time of about 1hr 30 mins passing through Knowle,Kenilworth,Leamington Spa,Warwick,Stratford Upon-Avon,Wotton Wawen and Henley in-arden. Then head towards the Crabmill Preston Bagot for toilet and refreshments.
If anyone does not like the sound of the Crabmill then the Bull in wotton Wawen was my alternative as both have good sized car parking, but am all ears if someone has a better venue.
For those who are viewing this for the first time that have not seen the old thread then you are more than welcome to add your name. If you are not sure how to edit the chart please just write your info and I will enter the details.

Hi Jas
Well done on getting the time and date fixed.
I'm going to have to go on the maybe list as it looks like I've made the 500 for Silverstone :-)
(I'll confirm once I know whats happening with work that week which event I can make)
Cheers

Thanks for letting me know Max and if you can't make this I'm sure we can do another at some stage.
Added my Brother to the maybe list who is not a member of Piston heads but has a TR6 that could possible be back from having a full restoration. It was due back last week but they have just found out that he has running problems with the carburetor and are trying to source another one.

May try and pack a full day and hit Shelsley Walsh for the breakfast meet and a greasy fry up and try to get back to support your costa coffee session and add a little aural delight lol
May not be around for the convoy but coffee "sounds" good

that will teach me to respond after a glass or 2 of wine lol................doh!
in that case you joining the SW TVR convoy on Sunday........and will see you as well on the 19th
Alcohol is the work of the Glen
RE: Shelsley, all depends on the weather,so not committing yet.Have looked at the weather chart and looks like Saturday is rain as is Monday but Sunday looks at the moment to have a pocket of sunshine/cloud.
So if the chart stays as it is I will contact you and meet you at Box trees.
Back to our little event... Does this mean I can add you to the chart for Sunday 19th?

Unfortunately the weather is one thing we can't organize in advance and the weather does play a big part for venues such as this.I'm sure i'm not alone, but standing around and then a convoy drive in the rain takes a lot of the fun factor out.
Just looked at the forecast and it's not looking pretty, light rain is forecast all day by the look of things.
I will kindly add your names to the list and thank you for showing interest in this little gathering.
TOO THE OTHERS ON THE LIST.... What is the general opinion regarding the weather?

Is this a open meet?
If so I might bring my son down for the drive.
Hello John,If so I might bring my son down for the drive.
Yes it is an open event...
The idea was put forward on the "Midlands exciting spotted car thread" that maybe we could have a local get together from the Solihull/Shirley region.
But anyone who is not far away from these area's in my opinion is welcome My current location is Tanworth in arden and I'm going
As i mentioned above the weather is not looking favorable but will still be going, just means the roof will be up which is a rare occasion.
So if you fancy coming along just confirm here and I will add you to the list
Regards Jas

I'm down for silverstone, but some way off joining my friends as I was late putting my name down (on honeymoon)
11am is a good start as I have a 40th birthday the night before, but it's not too far from me and the area is my old stamping ground.....
5.0 V8 Westfield, if I can sort out the intermittent issues with the car not wanting to start until it's good and ready after a run.. I won't put my name down - if I can make it, and it's not pissing it down, I will be there!

I will add you on the list but fully understand that because of your choice of car if it's heavy rain you won't be turning up.
Enjoy your Saturday shenanigans

Thanks for the congratulations - still not quite sunk in yet that I'm a married man!
It's not my birthday - I was 40 back in July. Weather is not looking too bad, and I hope to bring my 6ft 5, 18st co-pilot with me for ballast if it's a bit damp (and he's not still at the party)
looks to be an interesting line up of cars - I miss my RS4 and TVR, so it will be good to see someone else enjoying them. The AMG W124 - an itch I've yet to scratch
one question - the new Costa - is it near the Jaguar garage on the Stratford road?

There is a map on page 1. If you are coming from Shirley high street direction it's past the Honda/Toyota/Audi garages on the right hand side. You will then come to an roundabout and you take the 1st left. (If you went straight over the roundabout then the REGENCY hotel would be on the left) which means you have gone to far.
If you have SAT NAV postcode of B90 4BN. Or go to google maps enter B90 4BN and press satellite image.
Hope that helps you and your giant friend find the way ... regards Jas

Well my weather chart still says no rain so hopefully that does not deter people from bailing out and we kick off this first event with reasonable numbers of exotica.(Or just what you have)
If I was more on the organized side then for those wishing to join me on the convoy drive you would be handed a photocopy of the route plan on your arrival.
Well I have fallen at the first hurdle as I do not have a printer but my logic is telling me that we are all local and should be familiar with the surroundings.
Depending on the interest of the convoy drive we could have quite a large number and keeping all together is pretty much impossible unless we went for a drive up the motorway(Which we're not)
I have been out on the run two times now and it's taking 1hr-35 and today 1hr.55 but heading out of Stratford was heavy going.
I have added a link to the route (Took ages) and hopefully it comes out clear at your end and just have a quick browse.
There is a part after Meer end Rd that we could turn right, but I thought it would be nice to turn left head up to the island and come back on our self's so we get to see and hear the cars in action.
So if you see cars coming the other way don't panic... enjoy the sight.
Looking forward to hopefully a rain free day and meeting up with some local people who share the same interest in cars... Think we're called Piston Heads
Kind regards Jas..
PS My Brother is not a happy bunny as he thought his Refurbished TR6 would be ready ... Alas it's not
Hope it Works

Jas, as much as I would like to come and support the local meet and see the TVRs out, it looks like I'm going to be heading to Silverstone in the morning for SS (tough choice as I do prefer local meets)
I am down for the Jag SS meet in a couple of weeks time and it looks like there are few names that look familiar on the list, so hopefully as a follow onto the the local meet tomorrow there might be a few that might want to convoy down to Gaydon on the 2nd?
Have fun tomorrow chaps

Have a great day tomorrow at the SS and thanks for your comments regarding this event.
From your post last night I have signed up for the Jaguar SS at Gaydon (Many Thanks) so we should get in touch regards driving down in convoy at some stage.
Have a good one Max
Thank you so much for turning up and supporting this event
The weather which was not looking good early in the week turned out to be a perfect day which helped in receiving a good turn out and good selection of varied cars.
The not so organized organizer(That's me) did't even get a final count and my pictures that I took, well half of them have massive sun light reflection and the others blurred But from the remains of my photo's I reckon 18 cars???
It was always going to be difficult keeping together and upon reaching Leamington Spa we had lost half the field. Not sure but about 10-11 continued onto Warwick where we had a complete malfunction at the traffic lights and the roundabout which we took a left and the back markers took a right.
We did pull over and waited a good few minutes but no sign of you so a unanimous diction was made F Em!! and the remaining five of us stayed together all through Stratford high street and the remaining journey to the Crabmill.
At arriving at the Crabmill we were greeted with the back markers who had settled in nicely and been waiting about five minutes. Rigga (Martin) sorry I never got to meet you in person,I did ask your where about's but was told you had just left.
Thanks again to everyone that met this morning at Costa, for those that came on the run,and too those that got lost I'm sorry. I hope you all enjoyed our small gathering and when the better weather is more predictable we can arrange another meeting.
Some photo's that are half decent.. I took pictures of every car attended but sorry the quality is shameful to publish...
The camera then decided to play silly buggers from the Noble (Alastair) onwards
Kind regards TVRJAS
