Shelsley Walsh Sunday breakfast meet is now going to be advance ticket only. Posting this information for those who usually just turn up and do not receive update emails or look at the website.
From the website. It looks as though you buy a ticket and then apply for a parking pass. However, you will not know if you have a display/parking pass till 7 days before when they select those who have been successful. If I have read it correctly.
Also you have to buy a ticket at least 7 days before so no waiting till the day and assessing the weather.
I can see it being absolute chaos at least the first few months when those who do not know the new rules just turn up as usual. If those without tickets are to be refused entry then it will not be easy to turn round etc. It will be interesting. I wonder whether it will affect the numbers turning up? It was a good venue just to turn up to on a nice Sunday morning.

From the website
Breakfast Club

By Advanced Ticket Only

The MAC Breakfast Club is held once a month between February and October at the historic Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb in the Teme Valley on the outskirts of Worcester. The Breakfast Club is open to all, whether you are a car enthusiast, member of the club, motorsport mad or just like going out and meeting friends, Shelsley Walsh is the place to meet. As well as seeing a wide variety of cars old and new, you can also see the restored water mill in action, walk the hill and visit your Yard of Tarmac.

Due to the continual success and growth of the Breakfast Club and after receiving and considering a lot of feedback, we have reviewed the way the event works.

We have chosen to make the Breakfast Club an Advanced Ticket only event with a small charge to cover administration fees.

If you would like to come along you will need to purchase an Advanced Ticket online and once purchased you will then be invited to apply for a Car Pass, which will allow you to park in the Paddock.

By bringing in the new system we hope this will make the event run smoother, reduce the traffic and congestion on the narrow lanes and help cater for everyone.

Advanced Tickets close 7 days prior to the event, when those who have requested a Car Pass will be selected.

Please could we ask that all visitors to the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb consider the local residents and approach and leave slowly and quietly.

Please follow the process below and we look forward to seeing you.

STEP 1 - Purchase an Advanced Ticket

You will need to purchase an Advanced Ticket by going to our ticket shop, under 16s are free.
Once you have purchased your Advanced Ticket for each person in your party, you will receive an automated email thanking you for your purchase and an invitation to apply for a Car Pass.

STEP 2 - Request a Car Pass

If you would like to display your car your will need to apply for a Car Pass (numbers are limited).
Follow the link on your Advanced Ticket email and fill in all your car details and proceed to the checkout. Applying for a free Car Pass.

You will receive an automated email confirming receipt of your request for a Car Pass pending approval.
Once it has been reviewed by the team and if successful, you will receive a further notification to download your Car Pass in advance of the event.

Your Car Pass will need to be clearly displayed on arrival at the venue and give you access to the Paddock where you will be parked appropriately.

If you are unsuccessful, not to worry, you will be directed to the appropriate parking area forming an alternative display. You can always try again for the following month.

PASSES:

CAR PASS

Those who have a Car Pass will also have an Advanced Ticket and are asked to arrive from 8.30am and follow the signs to the main gates from where you will be directed.

ADVANCED TICKET

If you were unsuccessful and have an Advanced Ticket only, you will directed to the main parking area 500 yards from the paddock.
Please follow the signs to your appropriate parking to avoid any unnecessary congestion in the lane.

Edited to add that the February meet has been cancelled

I can also understand why they are doing this and hopefully it will allow for a greater mix of cars in the paddock. However, surely if you just turn up, happy to park in the field, happy to pay a few quid on the gate, just to wonder round the paddock and have a coffee, I can't see why they would turn you away. My initial understanding from the message was this related to people wanting to park in the paddock. If I decide i want a run out on a Sunday morning I would be tempted to just park up the road and walk in, as I'm sure many will and this will really upset the neighbours.
Not sure if you have bugged my house as we have just said the same thing about parking on the road! Also if many turn up and are refused entry - I can see them putting their foot down as they drive away- also upsetting the locals ( that is if they can drive off if roads not blocked by those parking.) I can see it killing the spirit of the Sunday breakfast.

Clarification from Shelsley Facebook page. You will be able to buy tickets in the 7 days before the event but you will not be able to park in the paddock. You get the field.....
Questions have been asked who chooses the cars and will there be a rolling selection to have a good selection each month. This might be moot if numbers drop dramatically. I wonder what would happen if only a few booked in advance and were allocated paddock tickets but loads rocked up having bought tickets the day before resulting in a few in the paddock and loads in the field- crazy. Also it has been asked if you book say a Porsche but it goes in the garage and you turn up in a Forf Mondeo. Would you get refused to the paddock ?

That sounds more like it. I think if you book to go in something interesting and you turn up in a Ford Galaxy, you go in a field. The whole idea to me of going is to walk round the paddock looking at interesting cars. Otherwise I might as well go walk round the local Tesco car park!!

I agree with Shelsley that they needed to do something about it. Its a great event the for place and must bring in some much needed cash for them. I'm sure it will take a few months to iron out various issues. At least I know that if i decide on Saturday to get up on Sunday morning and fancy a drive out I still get a ticket and go.
Yes, at least you do not have to book 7 days before. However, for there to be interesting cars in the paddock to look at it will depend on others being prepared to book at least 7 days before and being allocated a paddock pass. I wonder how many paddock passes there are to be allocated. Will they include all the space pass the gate including the grass bit immediately to the left after the entrance gate and the road going up the hill and the grass verges there. A question was asked on the FB page re car clubs , whether they could block book etc but I have not seen an answer as yet. I wonder if there might be a black market for paddock passes if you are unable to use one but still went for brekkie and parked in the field! Lol. Anyway it might all be irrelevant as it looks as though it is never going to stop raining. biggrin

So the money you have to pay for your ticket (someone said £3.50?). Do you get that back in the restaurant off your breakfast or does it go into Shelsley's coffers?
You do not get it back. It is supposed to be for admin......... It costs money to take money don' t you know!. Lot of hassle just for a couple of hours breakfast meet. Not sure how they have costed the admin charge out. I can see it killing the atmosphere there.

I can echo the above. I've lost interest.

The new system is going to drive people away from the venue IMO. I went on the website to look at buying a ticket and to try and see what the new process entails... is it just me who can't seem to find a page where one can be bought?

...
You cannot buy tickets till the day after the previous meet. So cannot buy March tickets till Monday 15th Feb (Feb meet cancelled due to waterlogged field). The ticket buying page will be available then.

Did anybody go last Sunday? If so what were the crowds like.

I got the e-mail through about tickets being available for the next one. Seems like you can now apply for Paddock tickets as late as 3 days before the event (was a week). Is this a sign that they aren't filling it up now?

Hopefully they will revert back to the old format soon.

Bob
Bob- I went on Sunday- the first time since the new arrangements. To me some of the atmosphere had gone. It was fairly busy with some nice and interesting cars. The cars parked to the left immediately past the entrance (where they park on the grass) used to be full of interesting ones but seemed to be run of the mill just to fill the space up. Anyway the field to the right just before the entrance where they have had overflow parking was full of sheep and probably sheep sh** so would not have liked to park there. The queue for breakfast was half a dozen at most and it has gone up a pound in price I note (but the marshalls have got nice new coats with their name embroidered on- so that's alright then....)
Maybe because it is earlyish in the season but there were no car clubs like a dozen MX5s that used to rock up. Like you I think they have amended the requirements due to the numbers falling dramatically. I think the main problem even now with the booking system is that you pay for the entrance ticket (and if you print it out- required on A4 paper you use a ton of ink if you are not able to download it onto a phone) is that you pay but no guarantee of parking. A lot of people have low cars that cannot be parked in a field so waste of time and money if no parking space. We saw friends there as well so will probably continue to attend when at home for the weekend. Later arrivals neither had tickets nor paid for entrance. That did not go down well (well not with me!) I will not be able to attend the May one so will be interested to see how it evolves. Friends who are members of Shelsley said the very influential people who live close by were looking to get the place closed due to traffic problems.
Should be there in June but will be interested in other comments from others on last Sundays meet and for the next one.
Have a look at the Shelsley breakfast club Facebook page which has some picture of the cars there last Sunday.
Regards

Hey I was parked up there! tongue out

Havent been since Cosford days (no nice car now, AT was right) so in relation to that it was much smaller. Add the 80mile trek, £7 entry and £20 for 4 bacon and egg sandwiches (missus and kids) its a bit pricey for a gander at a few cars. Makes Cineworld for 4 look reasonable.... Kids enjoyed sitting in a 1911 Sunbeam and missus loved the f type noise leaving!
Oops. Just looked down the line from the top-sorry. Agree that now a bit pricey when add it all together. That Sunbeam was great especially as the guy uses it and regularly does hill climbs in it. I don' know whether I would like to do a long trip on those wicker seats though!
