Well it's been a while since the last one, hasn't it? I can't believe it was nearly ten years ago!

It was certainly an eclectic mix of cars:

RR Silver Spirit
Bentley Turbo R
Bentley Mulsanne
Jaguar XK120
Saab 9-3 Turbo
Caterham 7

If there's some interest, I'm happy to co-ordinate again; possibly with the same route, or something different.

The first thing would be to agree on a date, of course.

People's thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm on the Shropshire Cheshire borders and would be up for this.

A stop off might be Sleap Aerodrome near Wem. Greasy spoon style cafe in the control tower, aviation archaeology museum and usually some interesting aircraft knocking about.
That's a great idea, and it's just off the route of the 2008 Hoon. Maybe a stop off there for breakfast? Or, if going in the reverse direction of my route, a lunch stop. That's a lovely looking Stag, BTW........

Talking of the roads in question:

When were you thinking of going and what's the route
I still have the pdf file of the 2008 Hoon somewhere. If those that are interested send me a PM, I'll send a copy across. In terms of "when", I'm not sure but I'm thinking at the moment of a Sunday in early May.

O/T I love Wenlock. I lived next door to bd Hall opposite Carole Anne's for a couple of years.

Anyway, let me know about timing / dates and if people want to see the proposed route.

Being a 9 - 5 pencil-pusher, weekends are always free and I'm still thinking early May when the weather is "agreeable" not being too hot and (hopefully) free of spring showers.

Looking at the calendar, the first weekend of May is a BH weekend which usually means lots more traffic on the roads.

How does Sunday 8th May sound for people?

Excellent bounce

May 8th pencilled in, then (but with an eye on the weather forecast a few days before; no point in enjoying Salop's roads in the pissing rain)

With regard to the route, I'm thinking of doing the same one as the 2008 run but in reverse. It'll still start at the same place just outside Newport, and means we can stop off at Sleap Airfield for lunch and a mooch about.

If you're taking part, copy the list below into your post and add your username and anticipated car for the day:

1. vournikas : BMW E46 325Ci

Just PM me for the route details

No problem at all, Mike.

If nothing else, you'll be adding to the cylinder count in the car park! The last one had..........(thinks)..........38 IIRC.

Actually, looking at the current list of attendees, if we could get a Dodge Viper or E60 M5 then this run out would have a great spread of engine cylinder configurations:

4
5
6
8
10
12

I was plugging the old route into Google Maps earlier, and there will be a small change as there seems to be an issue between Lydham and Craven Arms. Nothing major, but GM - at the moment - says no.

I'll do a "dry" run nearer the time to make sure everything looks ok.

No problem, chap; these things happen.

The nearest RV to Wenlock on the route is Bridgnorth, where (coming from Shifnal) it bears left towards Ludlow. I reckon - traffic permitting - we'd get to Bridgo from our starting point for 09:30-ish if that helps.

Joe,

Just tried to send a PM, but the PH hamsters seem to be on a break. I'll try again tomorrow

@Harmy & SteA

You (hopefully) should have mail.

Joe, I tried again but I'm still getting bork messages through the PM system.

What I'm best to do, I think, is let PH's hamsters settle down for a bit. On the Friday before the Run, I'll send out PM's with a link to the route to all those I haven't sent to previously and go from there.

Cheers,

v

All,

Just noticed the 8th of May is the Bike-4-Life motorcycle charity ride out from Shrewsbury to Cosford. 10-4pm.

5000+ bikes descending from all over the place, road closures and police escorts abound....
That's a great event - very sedate drive but still plenty of police supporting for the air ambulance I believe.

How long is the drive likely to be? I've a Tesla now and it could be fun although I doubt you'd all want to stop for an hour while I charge half way round!
Google maps tells me the drive itself is about 3.5 hours, with a total distance of 130-odd miles if that helps.

Thanks for the heads up, mike. Appreciated.

Although the route pretty much avoids the area in question, it does skirt past the Cosford area early on and with 5,000 bikers incoming I suspect that many will use B-Roads for the journey (well, I would), and much of the route may use the same roads.

Personally, I'd suggest moving the run-out for the following Sunday 15th May.

Thoughts appreciated!

Hello, all.

I was in the vicinity of Cosford earlier this afternoon, and the early warning signs were up for the Bike4Life event. They stated that delays were expected between 12:00 and 13:30 which I'm comfortable with.

We'll be setting off long before that, and by midday I would expect us to be at least 40-odd miles away from Cosford so I'm happy to stick to the 8th if that's OK with everyone.

Yes, still on for the 8th if that's still ok?

There were issues with PM'ing the route to everyone previously, and I did ask the question in Website Feedback as to what the problem was. One of the PH Techies did say that the PM system was a bit "wobbly" so to speak and that they were looking into it. However, there's not been an answer in the last two weeks so I can only assume that it's being brushed under the carpet.

I know I've managed to get the route across to a couple of attendees, so can those who haven't got a copy of it reply on here and I'll see if the PM system has stablilised.

Ta.

Hi, Black Flag

Just tried PM'ing you the route and it seems that the PH hamsters have said "No!".........again........... banghead

Try sending a request through to me (it worked for SteA) and see if that works.
