Anyone have any recommendations? I am familiar with Evesham and Solihull/Knowle but consider both to be too far to commute.

Stourport and Bewdley seem quite quaint having driven through and around the area.

Any areas I should avoid like the plague?

Many thanks (currently living near East Midlands Airport which is way too far to commute!)

Thanks very much for the advice.

Budget/what I'm looking for: Well I'm not looking at mansions, 3 or 4 bed detached houses. May rent initially, but ultimately looking to buy. Catchment area for good primary (and longer term, secondary) schools is very important.

What's Stourport like in comparison with Bewdley?

Not sure about Kidderminster itself, it looked ok but a little run down, although I have only really seen what I presume to be the edge of the town centre, ring road, journey you'd take across the east side of town travelling from north to Stourport.

The other two places looked a bit nicer. Are there any other small towns or villages nearby that are nice to bring up a young family?

Anyone on here know of Roxel or anyone that works there? Bit of a long shot as it's not a huge company.

Thanks, theboss, that's a very useful heads up.

I did see a place on the map called Leominster to the west.

I would strongly advise on avoiding stourpost at all costs, Bewdley only gets busy on friday/saturday nights in the town centre. Other than that decent area to live.
Why would you strongly advise avoiding Stourport? I'm not worried about traffic/busy town centres. I know there is a flood risk along the Severn but I will avoid any risk areas.

By the way, ladies and gents, the move is now most definitely 'on' so I am spending as much time on Rightmove as PH! In terms of town vs village, my wife doesn't drive so we cannot consider any villages that don't have (as a minimum) a primary school, library, post office and a shop (or three).

Most important things to us are good schools and low crime, quiet neighbourhood. Like most people really. Budget is up to 325k and we really need a four bed house.

Thanks once again for all your advice.

Bromsgrove is definitely on the radar. Which is nicer, Bromsgrove or Droitwich? Both quite close to the M42/M5 of course.

We have travelled around the area a little now.

Cleobury, Bridgnorth and Tenbury are all nice, but just a little bit further than I wish to commute unfortunately. They are not 'off the radar' just yet though. Good (ie sensible) house prices in Tenbury. Trouble is though if I ever end up working back in Birmingham it would be a heck of a commute, whereas the towns just off M5 would be fine.

Bewdley side of Kidderminster (Blakebrook, Habberley Rd, Bewdley Hill) and Bewdley itself seem nice.

Droitwich is a nice short commute (where I will be working is just south of Kidderminster on the A449) and a guy I currently work with lives there, he says it is like anywhere, good and bad parts. I haven't visited Droitwich yet.

Bromsgrove seems ok but a little pricey for what it is.

Girl at work in finance happens to live in Stourport, she moved out of Worcester to live there. Says it is fine and seems to have no trouble in four years of living there. I mentioned 'The Walshes' and she says she doesn't live far from that estate.

Have a good mate in Evesham. Almost worth living there for a beer pal, but again it is a 45 minute commute and I really want a 'less than 12 miles/20 mins' commute (partly so I can run a V8 and not care about petrol costs!)

Droitwich gets the winnIng vote after a visit today; like the town and most of the areas seem nice. We are looking at the older properties south east of the centre, tagwell rd area.

Jingars, any advice?

I only pass through that bit; I live on an estate off the Hanbury Road north of Tagwell, whilst The Outlaws live just to the south of your target area.

Nice area. It is established, so what you see is what you will get - no real opportunitiues for further developments other than one-off builds.

School-wise you are looking at St Peter's First School, which currently has a pretty good reputation. Although St Peter's was also our catchment, we sent our children to Chawson First School as we felt they were a more flexible school for our son with SEN, so no direct experience. Witton Middle School is an excellent school (son three still there) and the two elder ones are doing well (and enjoying) Droitwich High.

Corbett St Medical Practice is an efficient setup, so local GP is nicely covered as well.
Many thanks.

I will probably drop you a note through to your email and let you know of any specific roads we are going to look at (assuming you dont mind of course). There is a big house on Tagwell for sale at the moment but it needs a lot of refurbishment...but it may be too much for us in terms of the work needed. You may know the house I mean if you drive along that road, there is a skip in the drive at the moment!
