A massive question I know!!

Mrs Garyhun and I are fancying a change in life after selling our house in Dorset. We quite like the idea of heading a little west into Devon.

Ideally we'd prefer to stick to the East side for easier access back to Dorset and Bucks BUT that's not to say we could not be persuaded to go and explore further afield.

So, with a clean slate and absolutely no requirements apart from access to some nice local places to go and eat and drink, where would you suggest we go for a look.

We're going to head off either tonight or tomorrow morning heading into Ottery St Mary to look at a plot of land but are completely free from there on in.

Thanks
Gary

If I have an active village (pub/shop etc.) or a town within 30 mins walk then that's good for me.

I like a bit of rural but do not want to be remote.

There are some nice areas either side of the Exe estuary and places like Topsham, Lympstone which also have rail access
Cheers for that - I've seen Lympstone mentioned in other threads before but not Topsham. Will try to get to those this weekend.

Can anyone recommend a nice hotel in the area? Does not have to be 5*- clean, cozy and comfortable would be great.

Money no object I would live in Saunton, overlooking the golf course(s).
Any specific reasons?

Nice area, great beach, good Fish & Chips in Braunton, two of the nest golf courses in the country and an amazing view. Down side is the road out to the M5, the M5 and if you are heading north you might have to go near Bristol.
Cheers!

Are there good places to go for a decent meal in the evenings or lunch? (I can't eat fish and chips all the time smile)

well there i think you will be fine. . .my parents are always and i mean always eating out. . . .plenty of pub choices around, and hotels that do cavery's etc, they also love a bit of seafood, and rarely seem to cook at home. I can get some names for you, but it will be Holsworthy generally. They like a bit of Padstow, and all places in between. . i don't think places to eat will be a problem.
If your talking posh nosh then that isn't quiet there scene, but im sure others will make suggestions.
Sorry, I meant to say in the areas specifically posted above. After saying that, it looks like I'll be fine smile

Bradninch is a nice rural village, close to the town of Cullompton with very easy access to the M5. Also only 15 minutes from Exeter and 25 minutes from Taunton. Google it if you have never heard of the place laugh
Of course I haven't - until now wink
