hit and run tonight bmw e60 LX57 WKS

whilst on the m27 tonight fareham east bound minding my own business a bmw driver decides he wants to ram me and my bmw off the road.. i just came out of road works and brought it up to speed when i get a nudge in the rear and then he pulls alongside rams into the side of my car for some unknown reason.. my car being a now rare e34 540i manual and his an 520d.. he then drove off like a lunatic but i managed to get his reg.. no point giving chase and putting other people at risk i thought police might be helpfull.. appears not.. hoping his car has as much damage as mine.. i work in a bodyshop so not to much of a big deal for me. i would just like to know why people do this.. if anyone knows this plate LX57 WKS tell him hes a massive cock.. thanks
