Picture the A27 early this morning, between Havant & Chichester...

An almost straight road, hardly any traffic, dry weather, excellent visibility, no junctions.

So what possible reason would there be for our wondeful BiB to get up early & park a camera van on one of the bridges on a Breakfast Club Sunday, other than to rake in some cash? This has to be one of the most blatant, cynical, cash-generating stunts possible. How they ever expect any respect is beyond me. It's yet another example of this police-state trying to squeeze every last drop of enjoyment out of motoring.

I hope any of you travelling along there this morning saw it in time.

They are having a purge along this stretch of road, week before last it was in place every day through Monday to Friday. Out of interest, was the operator of the camera visible outside of his van?
Yes, he was stood by the tripod at the back of the van. Why do you ask?

He was monitoring the eastbound carriageway, bravely protecting people travelling towards Chichester from the certain death that befalls anyone exceeding the speed limit.

Chatted to this guy at last years Festival of Speed, they had the camera partnership there. He said then, that he always sets up outside the van giving more presence. But saying that, he allowed us to see what he sees, it was quite an eye opener, to be honest, you stand no chance, because he has got you before you see him, once he has got your speed, he then takes your mug shot, and checks to see if you are on the phone or eating your lunch, all this at some 1000 metres and perfect clarity.
Out of interest, how accurately can he focus on a particular point on a car, i.e. can he pick a point on the number plate to get a decent reflection, or is he only capable of hitting the vehicle in a more random manner? The reason I ask is that I would have thought that to get an accurate reading the beam would ideally need to hit a perpendicular surface, and on a typical sports car the only decent vertical surface is the number plate (which is pretty small at a range of 1000m).

All I can say is that I went past it at about 8:45; no idea when he started. Good luck!
