This year's CPOP www.cpop.co.uk kicks off on Friday evening with Status Quo and has a mouthwatering array of vehicles, leaning towards Italian thoroughbreds as Italian marques are this year's theme, including a special, pre event within Liverpool the day before. A quote from todays press release:-

"The high-octane action that characterises the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power will kick off a day early this year as the festival celebrates the start of another very important sporting event.
England’s footballers will take on Italy in their first match of the FIFA World Cup during the Pageant weekend and to mark the occasion, the best cars and bikes from this year’s line-up will stage their very own competition at Wirral on Thursday 12th June.

Two star XIs from the best of English and Italian motoring will go head-to-head in a noise-off, showcasing the best of Cholmondeley’s motoring heritage. It’s going to be big, noisy and full of instantly recognisable unique vehicles, all due to be on show at this year’s Cholmondeley Pageant of Power. More details will follow in the coming weeks.

James Hall, event director, said:

“The country will be at fever pitch during the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power weekend as England start their World Cup campaign against Italy on Saturday 14th June. Both countries have top class motoring pedigrees and and our Italian theme at this year’s Pageant lends itself perfectly to showing off the best of noise and speed from both. Liverpool City Region is going to see some serious noise on the 12th June!”

The convoy of cars will then decamp to the nearby Wirral West Float in a showcase event for the general public, as part of the £4.5bn Peel Holdings Wirral Waters regeneration project which will transform the docklands area into an exciting new automotive industry hub.

Tickets for the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power are on sale now from www.cpop.co.uk or www.ticketmaster.co.uk. Gates open at the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power at 8am every day and adult tickets are from £30.

For further information on the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power and for video highlights from the 2013 event, please visit www.cpop.co.uk"

I guess you were on your way when I waved you pass, was towing my race car back from Oulton. Love the sound of your Integrale smile - nice 'bang' as you passed.
Thanks. She does pop and bang and I timed it just right as I passed you hehe

A selection of photos are here http://www.lawrencecliftphotography.co.uk/40081/in... and the video is currently rendering so I'll post a link when it's completed.

I have been going to "Chumly" for the past 7 years and will be giving it a miss for the next few years as I feel that it's gone stale with the majority of the cars being seen every year and there's only a handful of vantage points to photograph the cars on the circuit. It's a great event for the first timer but the car club and stall holder numbers were down this year as compared to previous years. They also need to look into their security as I heard of 2 instances of theft from tents.

I have suggested BTCC, BSB and even F1 teams along with their drivers/riders, but this was a couple of years ago and those type of teams seem to favour FoS. I did also suggest the hire of the Vulcan bomber for a display but was told that the fee (c£10k) would pay for ALL of the aircraft that displayed along with the insurance. I wonder how much Status Quo charged as there was only around 1,500 people watching and the Vulcan would easily attract more people to the show. Even event sponsor Bentely were inconspicuous this year, although this may have been due to the date clash with Le Mans?

The reason for my thoughts is that I'm accredited media and there's only a handful of places to get action shots from and readers get bored of seeing the same cars going over the same bridge. As I've stated, if it's your first time at the Pageant, then it's a great day, but gone are the days of the dancing JCB diggers and army displays which were great.

Hi Dom, yes, I sent James an e-mail whilst I was at home yesterday when I should have been track side. You're fully aware of my thoughts due to discussions whilst on site. I just feel that I need some time away and hopefully I'll see a change for the better upon my return. I've been to Rallylegend in San Marino every year since 2008 and in essence it's the same every year, but they do change the rally stage layout and add new items each year, something that Chumly need to do in mine, and others, opinions.

As I've said, it's a great day out for the first timer, but for what you and I go for, it needs refreshing.

The last time there was a dedicated rally stage, basically a blast up and down a tarmac road, the then Slowly Sideways UK (now Rallying with Group B) requested a dedicated area. Chumly offered a gravel stage but this was turned down due to the drivers preferring tarmac, hence why there's no longer any rally presence. The reason that Rallying with Group B had a display last year along with two parade laps at the lunchtime interval was that they were invited by Wales Rally GB. It's such a shame that the club is no longer invited as when the cars completed their "parade lap", the amount of spectators that stood up to watch the cars go round was great. I was asked to help supply marshals for the tunnel sound off this year and approached RWGB who were willing to help if they had an invite from Chumly. I was told by Chumly that there was no available space.

I am involved with RWGB and they're involved with Bradford Council to put on a Rally show in August next year in a City park. More information to come during the coming mknths

PS - Lawrence, I saw you on Saturday afternoon. I sadly missed Oulton but was passing near Tarporley after spending an couple of hours watching Le Mans on the telly. You blared past; car looked awesome!
Yeah, I decided to leave Saturday evening and unplugged the tent and chucked everything into the car feeling very unhappy. The poor car got some stick on the way home!!!

We came in through the first gate southbound on the A49, through the arch - the main entrance to the castle I presume.
That's a shame as, if you'd carried on a further mile down the road, you'd have come to a cross roads with the Cholmondeley Arms on the left. Turn right at that junction and the car club entrance is second on the right. So next time........

Even though I won't be attending for the foreseeable future, I may still be involved with organizing our car club stand thus, if anyone wants the car club pass, then PM me closer to next year's event and I'll see what I can do as not everyone with a classic car is a member of an owners/enthusiasts club.

Yes, I think the only redirecting Russ was talking about was if you come in Gate 3 (opposite the Ch Arms) and aim for the car clubs. As I think back though, I had to show my car club pass on the way in there, but there was a big car park area behind the club displays which had plenty of normal cars on, so I don't know how they got in if they didn't have a club pass. Unless that was 'club guests and friends'.
Nope, just a normal public car park, maybe an "over spill" but saying that, a Lancia Beta was directed to park amongst those cars until I spotted them and asked if they'd like to join us on our club stand.

Goodwood was, as expected, ten times better than Chumly as it ought to be seeing that this year was its 22nd year. The last time that I was at the FoS was back in 2007. Has it changed much? There seemed to be more corporate hospitality units than I remembered but the manufacturers had a much larger presence. Goodwood has got THE name to be seen at, hence why it attracts top teams and drivers/riders and former/current champions. The whole weekend was sold out.
