Anyone local to York know of any guesthouses close to the city centre (no more than 1.5miles) have googled lots but it seems I can have a week abroad cheaper than staying for a couple of nights in December! eek I know a lot of b&b's don't have websites or get listed on Tripadvisor etc so looking for local knowledge.

Double room with en-suite first weekend in Dcember

Thanks

Try the Bootham Crescent Guest house on Bootham Crescent. Its only a short walk to town. On street parking only though
Thanks, no rooms available though

Have found a place for a decent price, it's in Stockton on the Forest and says there is a bus every 30mins in to the centre (10min bus ride).

Its a bit of a tram out.

I'd pay the extra and get somewhere closer.

You just needing a bed for the night or looking to spend a few days exploring?

What dates?
B&B website says it's a 10min bus ride in to town, to stay closer is double the price or more so don't mind paying to use the bus service, plan is to arrive around 4pm (it's a 500mile round trip) have a meal and relax on the Friday night, spend all day in town on the Saturday pop back to shower/change then back in to town for a meal with family, so nothing much so don't really want to pay £300+ for a bed for a couple of nights.

Just be aware taxis are quite expensive in York, as is parking.

There is a Park n ride on Monks Cross which might be worth using. They can get very busy but are very regular. They run to about 8pm.

I know it's expensive to park that is why we wanted a central/close guest house, bus will be fine and probably a taxi back late Saturday night, checked on the taxi app thingy and it's approx £13.50 from city centre out to Stockton using York taxis.

Near to Stockton there are the following choices:

The Gold Cup at Low Catton, the one I'd pick to be honest. The food I've had there has always been decent, the furthest away from Stockton though.
The Duke of York in Gate Helmsley, food quality can vary depending who's the chef. Its my old local though and the nearest to where you'll be.
The Windmill in Dunnington, The most "Foody" of this selection, not really a pub though.
The Three Cups in Stamford Bridge, food quality is consistent. Although thats mainly as its mostly microwaved stuff.
Excellent thumbup just the info i was looking for, will give the Three Cups a miss but after looking at the menu for the Gold Cup it looks like that is Friday evening meal sorted.

If you haven`t booked up yet I`d seriously recommend Primrose Lodge in Dunnington - about same distance as Stockton. Rave reviews on tripadvisor as well.
I tried there before I booked the place in Stockton, they had nothing available for my dates.
