Usually you're in with a good shout of spotting the vans before being upon them, however this morning on the A64 West bound just after Grimston Bar there was one parked up on the bridge over the carriageway, but instead of being placed centrally over the road and highly visible as they usually are, this bugger was tucked right into the side so you couldn't see it until literally going under the bridge. The camera hatch was definitely open so i don't think it was just arriving/leaving.

So be warned, that's the first time i've seen one operating sneakily like that. Just yesterday i'd had my Integrale at work in Leeds for MOT and servicing and tanked it a bit coming back home, had a van been as above I could have found myself in a spot of trouble!!

Cheers,
Rob smile

I went to Whitby last week and one was on a bridge on the A64 then.
They're on the 64 daily between York & Leeds, but as I mentioned you're usually in with a good shout of spotting them all. The one this morning was being a proper snidey lol

I often see the van there on that bridge before 9am, driver probably goes for a fry-up soon after as they're not there later on.

I saw an Integrale (yours?) filling up at Sainsburys Monks cross last weekend, also an old 1920's(?) car, so presumed there must be some kind of local car show going on?
Yeah I was there on Sunday (I think!?) just blowing the tyres up and juicing it ready to take to Leeds. You weren't in the dodge were you? wink

Another heroic effort by the police service, pouring resources into stopping accidents that don't exist.

Give them more funding or medals or something.
I'd love to agree with you and as much as I hate the bloody vans, there's a stupid number of crashes on what is generally a well conditioned straight piece of road! A lot of bloody numpty drivers about obviously.

Just this morning between Hopgrove & Grimston West bound there's some new tyre marks and vegetation ploughed where someones gone off the carriageway. It's straight FFS and possibly happened overnight when there'll be little traffic. So either someone who was pissed or someone who just shouldn't be allowed to drive!!

Could you locals on the A64 pin the map where the 'usual' hide-outs are please? I'm up there from time to time and I do like to get my toe down so it'd be helpful to know where to keep an especially keen eye on. Thanks.

I see Grimston (Bar) to Hopgrove is the bit between the A1079 junction and the roundabout at the northern end of the ring road, but not sure where the other bits are that have been mentioned.
Haven't got enough pins hehe

Seriously, just consider the A64 West and East between Scarborough - York - Leeds a no fly zone. As drivers wise up (and the scamera vans presumably generate less revenue) they just relocate to a different hiding spot, which are getting sneakier and sneakier.

I would have so much more support for the Police if they put the same effort as they do into catching speeders into other anti social areas such as littering. Even much more scope to catch st driving, mlm's, people driving on the right when no one in the left, slow moving vehicles on DC's etc etc. It's a disgrace punch

This doesnt bode well for me-i leathered it back from Scarborough on the A64 last weekend. That might explain the ease in which i managed to get past people as they were obviously more aware of the vans than i was.
If it makes you feel any better, I committed my 79mph crime on Tuesday, the NIP arrived at work (Co. Car) today, so they seem to get them out quickly. You'll be ok wink

ps - unless you were doing a ton 50 and they're still wondering what to with you drivinglaugh

they can pick cars off from some distance there. Again they seem to like to sit facing the way on an evening in the opporsite layby.
Quite, the lad who lives over the road from me is a vehicle technician for NYP and tells me the camera range is 1km so in most cases you'll be fecked before you know it (yet there's plenty who still slam on right before the vans). His missus was caught twice in Stockton on the Forest when they pumelled the village for a few months with a van, don't know how he didn't find it in himself to commit a little sabotage biggrin

I struggle to see why anybody who thinks they can drive needs that advice-but I guess the readership of this thread includes those who think that ..ahem..hooning is fine in heavy traffic ?

I encountered the van at Scawton on A170 last night whilst enjoying a spirited run on empty roads , Thanks to the white van man who flashed me half a mile before .
Well on my own behalf I certainly don't consider 79mph to be hooning, more a typical commute. In all honesty I usually keep the speedo to 80 knowing that it's actually 75 (according to GPS).

Truth is North Yorks is a mine field now, and the biggest concern for me is how devious they are getting with van location. Haven't ridden the GSXR1000 this year yet and finding it difficult to get motivated enough to MOT the thing, partly afraid of the trouble I could get myself into (my section 59 acquired last year has just expired last week!)
