Hello everyone
I like car auctions,
have bought a few cars from auctions over the years (and sold a couple too)
and would like to hear from private buyers who have bought a car at auction, and hear how they got on,
I've had a few crackers,, and a couple of complete bangers!
so:
which auction? was it a prestige auction (i'd like to hear from anyone who's bought at a top marques in Nottingham or similar)
when, and how long you've ran it for?
was there anything wrong with it?
how much including fees? (if you don't mind telling everyone)
how much you'd pay for a similar car privately or at a dealer
and of course some photo's (low res please as the internet connection is rubbish here offshore)

I'll start it off,
My last car i bought was a 2003 L322 Range Rover SE 4.4 petrol from the friday night auctions at Kinross (smag)
got it delivered to my house in the north east of scotland and including all fees was a fiver off £6k
had to repair a hole in the exhaust, fix a broken exhaust hanger, and a dicky sidelight connection, for is MOT a few months later
was a tad rough around the edges but only had 65,000 miles and loads of receipts / history,

kept it for 6 months then sold it for £6,000, so not bad, just an MOT, some Tax and Petrol,

Excuse the ignorance but why are these cars going to auction from a dealer when they are new, low mileage, possibly sought after?
Yes i do wonder that myself,
I understand how the middle aged/ mileage cars the big dealerships take in in part exchange end up in the auction / as well as the bangers no dealer wants, but i think i seen a car in last week with less than 500 miles on it,

I'm not looking to buy anything as new next time, looking for a 5 year old mid sized 4x4 (rav4,crv,kuga) for the winter with about 60,000 miles

by the way, i only bought a new Fiesta st-2, in white about 2 months ago,, i really would like to know why this one is in auction because ford dealers are selling these by the bucketload, so must be popular
and i'd love to know what kind of price it goes for at auction

and i'd love that Audi S5 ,, thats a really nice motor,

i did try and pick up a Aston Martin Vantage V8 that was there about 9 months ago,, it went for really strong money, about £29 grand, and it was rough,, really rough!

Ok guys here is another one,
1993 Mitsubishi Pajero 2.5 manual SWB
bought from the auctions in Aberdeen years ago for £700
I bought it to tow and launch my speedboat,
started to overheat on the way home,, head gasket was gone,,
fixed the gasket myself, then ran it for over 3 years,
solid chassis, unlike the british Shogun
glow plug module didn't work so i just wired a switch from maplin to the relay,
didn't know how many miles it had done as the speedo never worked
sold it for £1200 3 years later,
only other thing was it needed a steering box for a MOT,
even ran it on used chip fat, changing the £1 in line filter i put in before the main fuel filter
fantastic in the winter, turned out to be one of the best cars i ever owned!

it does tell you, for example "john clark" or "Reg Vardy"

some auction houses (bca for example) will have sale days marked up as "pendragon" or "whitehorse" and these are ex lease / finance / etc

and some auctions are called "fleet" and also you have "mobility"

from experience tho,, if it's a private entry,, don't go anywhere near it,
there in there for a reason,

Bought another one,
picked up a 2007 Freelander HSE with less than 39,000 miles and 7 stamps in the history book,
it had a factory tow bar and "all weather" tyres so it should be good for winter
has a dent in the rear door and some scratches that need sorted, and needs a damn good clean,
but hasn't missed a beat since i got it on monday,
paid a bit much for it, £10,700 including fees, but i had my heart set on a Freelander and there was about 10 to choose from
this one was the 2nd last one to go through and they all went for good money, and the last one was a base model

here's a few more interesting cars up at Kinross,
i've now been looking at a few more auction centres, went to Central in Glasgow, plenty cars, some nice ones, starts at 12 on a mon, wed, and friday,, you can watch the auctions on the website live feed,

Also,, been on the Manheim website,, they seem to get a few Evoques, which i may get one next!

Back on to kinross,, Another RS6,,, I wonder what it goes for?
I think the one at Central which is further up my post went for £26-28K plus fees

What are the fees like at Kinross? Looking for a cheap car 1-1.5k but some of the fees at other actions I've seen don't make them good value anymore.
look up www.smag.co.uk i think you'll get the fees on there
